Are these shoes nice or naff?

My shoe radar is way off. Sitting there in the box I don't like them but when I try them on with jeans I look in the mirror and think they look nice. I am really out of touch shoe-wise so would appreciate any opinions! www.clarksoutlet.co.uk/griffin-milly/26120148-p

Always Russell & Bromley loafers. There are good ones on vinted if that's preferable to full price.

Handy for whacking large spiders with big otherwise it's a massive NO.

They look like the shoes Barbara Woodhouse used to wear.

Ha that made me laugh 😆. Walkies!!

I’d wear them for work. No where else. They aren’t the worst shoe but definitely wouldn’t wear outside of work

My problem is that shoes that I think look ok are apparently horrible, and big old chunky ones I imagine a granny would wear are apparently in (Birkenstocks come to mind - I just don't get them?)

Slim loafers are also in trend. Not just chunky ones. Right now if you want to avoid the old person/school shoe look, try a longer front box
You can get them at all price points so ignore my obviously extortionate examples!!

They are school shoes imo
DD wore in black at school and now has the same as a teacher - they have a rubbery sole and v comfortable

Ha almost unanimous then! I don't mind if you're brutal about it, I can return them for free 🙂. I am so bad at picking shoes - could someone point me in the direction of some nice tan leather loafers please?

I LOVE birkies so should probably not advise you!

It depends how old you are. I know I'll get slammed for being ageist here but if you are a bit older they may look frumpy but if you are younger they are very fashionable right now.
A bit like cardigans ....

DramaAlpaca · 18/04/2024 22:21

I love loafers, but I hate that particular pair. I don't like the sole and I really dislike the colour.

Koptforitagain · 18/04/2024 22:26

I would not wear them.

rhiannon1967 · 18/04/2024 22:53

I love loafers but I don't like these at all.

  1. They turn up at the toes. I hate shoes that do that.
  2. They have a really low front (vamp) which is what makes them look old-fashioned. You need something a bit more chunky with a higher front.

If you want tan, what about these from Other Stories

I think we have similar tastes. I hate chunky shoes. They just make my feet look huge, and I don't need the extra height.

Jelliclecats · 18/04/2024 23:02

Could you look at brogues rather than loafers? I just bought some Hush Puppy tan brogues and they are so comfy and look great with my jeans.

I personally wouldn’t wear the ones you’ve got; I’m in my mid forties and would feel I was making myself frumpier rather than feeling nice.

And yes, walkies!
