I'll be graduating in November and I am thinking of this dress with these flat shoes as I don't want to fall over on the stage! Graduation gown is navy with lighter blue. As it's cold I think I'll need black tights too. Does it match?

For extra info I'm about 5 ft' 9 and a size 8. The dress looks black in the picture but it's navy and also comes in black. Could go with the black option but not sure if it's too black with tights and the shoes?

What about flesh coloured tights?

Graduationdresshelp · 15/04/2024 23:24

That's not a bad idea! I'm just not used to getting dressed up anymore 😆

The dress is lovely and perfect for the occasion. I'm not a fan of the shoes with tights though, if you really need tights then a nude colour as PP suggested would probably be your best option.

Only thing is say - a dress/blouse with a button is useful for the hood, else it’ll keep slipping off. With this dress, you’d definitely need a discreet safety pin or similar to hold it in place

Love the dress, good shoes, prob would choose a nude colored tightes I don't like the navy and black combo
Either all black or go with navy and nude tights

Graduationdresshelp · 15/04/2024 23:42

Thanks everyone! I wasn't sure about the navy/ black combo either so I'll go with the black option. Definitely got to have tights in November or I'll have my legs out covered in goosebumps

I didn't have much luck finding a dress with buttons on so safety pins it is!

Some hoods need a button, some are self-supporting (I forget exactly how).

LOVE the dress

There's nothing wrong with shoes and tights. Bare legs, formal shoes and a formal dress in November just looks daft- as if you (general you) had forgotten to finish dressing.

Black or dark navy 30/40 denier opaques are fine.

The "horror of tights" is yet another "only on MN" thing. (see also current thread in AIBU about forcing guests to take their shoes off) In real life women wear tights.

OP - nice dress and shoes. I'm not sure about the split but your gown should cover it. The shoes are good.

I don't mean in general, just those particular shoes due to the detail on them.
