All welcome

Veils drawn over last week...

The rules (anyone can join):

This is about feeling better about yourself...not necessarily a diet per se etc etc

  • Sunscreen at all times
  • No or little booze. Wine at the weekend is allowed if you want it
  • Walking is important, a small amount every day if possible. 30 mins if you can
  • Lots of water, aim for 2 litres a day
  • Apply body cream as often as possible
  • Use hand cream
  • Go to bed early, by 10.30pm if pos
  • Eat healthily
  • Be happy

The idea is that at the end of six weeks we all feel happier, healthier and glow with the good food, sleep, exercise, water and lack of sun damage

Just ended the day with a huge scream at my DCs. So DH is putting them to bed. I've had enough.

5000 steps. Horrid cold, have been thick with snot for a week and now I have a sore throat (especially after all that yelling). Bump hurts too. Gah! I am feeling sorry for myself!

I've eaten wholemeal toast & marmite, apple, OJ, cheese & crackers, plum, raw carrots. And because I haven't had any dinner yet I have just eaten a several coconut biscuits and a Twirl. Lots of water.

Face & hands yes. Everything else no. No early night, not sleeping anyway. Woe is me.

Where is L&S?

saggars - fantastic exercise. How were the new trainers?

LoveAndSqualor · 02/04/2008 19:12

Hello all!

Finally back online after giving birth - at last! - on Friday, to a beautiful, remarkably well-behaved DS, who weighed in at a frankly staggering 10lbs 7oz ... will return with proper post and grizzly birth details (actually not too grizzly, all things considered) tomorrow, but I hear grumblings from the moses basket so must go. We are well, happy and even managing a bit of sleep from time to time ... Will post a pic on my profile as soon as I get a sec ...

until tomorrow (and thanks so much for all good wishes!) xxx

Prufrock · 02/04/2008 19:17

Oh huge congratulations and welcome to the first ever bootcamp baby. You will have to get used to us all being a bit proprietorial about him - I still think www's dd is very special because she was the first of the people I "know" on Mumsnet to be pregnant after I knew them, and she was covered for a while in my maternity trousers. Make the most of the sleepy well behaved stage. It won't last, but you will cope.

Duch - get thee to bed with chocolate, tea and TV.

TheDuchessOfNorksBride · 02/04/2008 19:38

Congratulations L&S! Can't wait for the details. 10lb 7oz

I hope you're feeling OK and not too sore.

So does your DS have a name yet?

ChutneyMary · 02/04/2008 19:53

Gosh L&S, what a whopper! Well done to you and DS, so glad you are home. Look forward to the story.

Am failing on bootcamp fronts apart from water and walking. Must try harder

Duch, how are you feeling today? Better I hope. Take care.

unknownrebelbang · 02/04/2008 20:34

Congratulations L&S!

Wow at the size! I didn't manage a 10lber til DS2 and DS3, lol.

unknownrebelbang · 02/04/2008 20:42

Sorry you're not feeling great Duchesse.

I am feeling completely out of sorts, as is DH. I know I'm irrationally crotchety because of the workmen (got woken up with a start this morning), but I think the last couple of chocolate-filled days (and little proper nutrition/exercise) have really taken their toll.

I also think once I'm back at work tomorrow I will feel more in control. Just thinking how cr*p it is that I'm feeling itchy because I've had two weeks' leave, and then had to take two days lieu time (or lose it) when I know I should be in there getting stuff sorted.

Apologies for the woe is me whinge. I realise my woes don't even register on the scale compared to a lot of folk, both on here and in rl.

WideWebWitch · 02/04/2008 20:59

OMG L&S at 10lb 7oz, my word that's big, congratulations! That's LOVELY! Well done.

My dd was indeed in lots of Prufrock's maternity clothes and, after she was born, in one of pru's dd's purple dresses that was FAR too big for her. She goes to school in September, blimey.

Long day but working at home tomorrow so that's good

dh and I both ill last night after the salmon so there was def something wrng with that. Never mind.

Hence was a bit BRAT diet today until I was sure I was ok iyswim

Imodium on train, luverly
toastx 2
banana
cautiously ate a smoked salmon sandwich
another banana
crisps

2 glasses wine at Euston as had AGES before my train
and have M&S Chinese for in front of The Apprentice. Am drinking wine.

Bundle, you look LOADS younger than that, I thought you were younger than me.

Saggars, 7 miles, wow.

dingdong, sorry about tonsilitis, sympathy.

DofN, sorry it was a bad day, hope you feel better soon

unknwn, you're ALLOWED to whinge on this thread you know. We sympathise on the work front.

Gotta go, SrAlan beckons. (eww, what a thought)

tortoiseSHELL · 02/04/2008 21:15

YAY!!!! Congratulations L&S!!!!!!!!! Have you got a name yet? And wow at 10lb 7! Ds2 was my biggest at 10lb2, couldn't imagine him being ONE MICROGRAM bigger! But hope you are all very very happy! xxxx

Prufrock · 02/04/2008 22:28

I remember that dress www - totally and utterly impractical but gorgeous - I think dd wore it once! Nowadays she won't wear anything with a skirt. I manage to get her into vaguely feminine leggings/tunic combos by telling her they are long tops. She's spent today (and will spend tomorrow) on a football course, and complained that her tracksuit top was pink.

I'm sinning with a pinot grigio (always reminds me of last years apprentice) and popcorn instead of proper dinner. Dh is away - client drinks tonight and 8am breakfast meeting tomorrow, which would mean getting the 5:50 train, so he's staying in town. Haven't even exercised today, though did do a long walk with dogs and ds, and as always remebered the sunscreen

bamamama · 03/04/2008 03:22

Hello all. Many, many congratulations L&S and I will add my to the weight. Ds was 9lbs 2oz and that was quite enough thank you!

Hope all of you that are feeling bleugh are feeling better and that work is treating everyone well.

Bootcamping okay-ish this week although there has been rather a lot of wine. Tick the boxes for everything else though.

DH is out tonight so I'm going to get some work done and have an early night.

Saggarmakersbottomknocker · 03/04/2008 09:25

Congratulations L&S Blimey 10lb 7oz! Ouch! dd was 10lb but as least I'd had practice by then.

Hope you're feeling better today www. And you too dingdong.
And Norks.

Grr about the lieu days rebel - use 'em or lose 'em - how come you can never use them when you want them that's what I want to know?

Mmm Pinot Grigio I'm still being good bootcamp-wise. Will be scuppered on Saturday as we're going out for an Indian meal to celebrate our sentence 23rd anniversary.

The runners are fab Norks - very light - still need the orthotic in the right one though I think. Legs a bit achey today so having a day off.

Bit bothered about dd's health (as per) unusually tired, loads of nose bleeds and this morning complaining of night sweats. I swear she was put on this planet to test my sanity, bless her.

Need to go to Sainsbury's. Laters.

marina · 03/04/2008 09:36

Ureb, I could have written that post myself I love being at home with the dcs but the sudden switch from wage slave to temp SAHM, knowing that the work is still festering away in the background and no-one else is going to do it, is a tricky one. And I ate so much chocolate I felt sick. Water intake down too, due to having no peace to drink it
Congratulations L&S, welcome to the wonderful world of baby boys . So pleased all went well for you...and you have to qualify for the week's best weight loss on bootcamp ! Ds was 8lb 13 and dd 9lb on the nail so nowhere near your bouncing boy!
I had no idea you were 43 either bundy - we are a youthful looking lot on this thread, I think. Pah to Madge and her sinewy botoxed look, dewy curves is where it's at post 40 , although some of us take more exercise than others (respectful nod at saggars).
Is your roof fixed yet chutney?
And really hope duch, www and dingdong are all feeling better today, and dd has a better day saggars. Wispy spring sunshine always helps I think
I think happiness (tinged with anxiety about not being at work) is the best I am doing on bootcamp just now

iamdingdong · 03/04/2008 09:55

congrats to L&S that is a fab size! my twins' combined weight was 2lb less for which I am actually quite grateful!

Feeling lousy still, have packed DTs off to MIL's for a couple of days in an attempt to keep them away from my germs not to mention the added bonus of not having to get them off to bed or up in the mornings. I hope to feel better by the weekend though, my 2 week hol starts Monday and I have serious shopping plans!

Duchesse hope you are feeling better, WWW too, and hello to everyone else

Many congratulations to L&S - am very impressed by babies in double figures!

I am lazing at home instead of going to the gym as there seemed no point in going today since I won't be able to go again until after the school hols are over, especially with dh conveniently away for most of the fortnight.

The Apprentice was fab - I am ashamed of the girls being so useless - that's really letting the side down.

feetheart · 03/04/2008 14:53

Wow - well done L&S and welcome to L&S junior. That's a VERY impressive weight, hope you didn't have too many Newborn clothes. Sleep as much as you can when you can, I remember it the way batters does too - sleepy for a while then far too nosy to sleep

Sounds like quite a few poorly people, hope you have the sunshine we have here and that it's making you feel better.

Just run round the park after scootering DS whilst DD was trampolining. How come they seem so much less knackered than me? Suppose the 40+ age gap may have something to do with it!

To add to the Superdrug offer, Boots are currently doing 3 for 2 on ALL skincare stuff. That includes the wonderful Eucerin face cream I was recommended on here. Went in to get some yesterday and came out with 3 pots! Will check finanaces on Friday and may go back for another 9 pots - will cost £90 or so but save £60 in total and last me for about 12 months, sounds like a bargain to me!

moonshine · 03/04/2008 17:23

Congratulations L&S. Another one here who had a 10lber and that was bad enough.

Duchess - I think I missed what happened to your bottom . Hope it is better!

And ditto to all others feeling ill/or just not in bootcamp mode. I am just feeling slightly better today (and yes WWW - it has accounted for the loss of a few pounds but in my own inimitable way I'm sure I will more than make up for that the second I'm fully better).

Three hundred cheers here that we no longer have access to Little Bear - pure torture tv. But the dcs now torment me with Horrid Henry, although at least it's more entertaining, but not the same episodes for the 500000th time [thinks maybe I should be instigating a tv ban then ].

Rest of bootcamp - out the window for me this week.

Happiness - average as am now desparate to be better and going to the the gym but am now off work for a week.

I must be a bit better though as all this talk of pork belly is making me hungry...

Hello all. I am feeling a bit better and a lot more cheerful today.

7000 steps and have been outside lots in the lovely weather. Caught up with a friend this morning, helped out with pre-schools lunch club and have helped/overseen 2 DCs homework so feeling virtuous!

I've eaten toast & marmite, seafood sandwich, apple, raw carrots, duck & pancakes, sweet & sour chicken & rice (the latter homemade so easy on the sugar content). I may go and nibble some cheese in a minute too. 2 very strong coffees, lucozade and lots of water. Is it possible to be addicted to water do you think? I can't seem to get enough of the stuff.

Have done hand, face & body. Slept better last night but not exactly 'early to bed'.

saggars - how is the littlest bottom knocker? Glad you like your noo shoos.
batters - how are you & DD now? Your recovery food sounds good!
ding/www - feeling better I hope?
pru - a long walk with the dogs IS exercise.
marina - agree about the dewy curves.

foxinsocks · 03/04/2008 19:54

hello everyone!

Congrats L&S and happy birthday bundle. I have a feeling you work very near to me .

I diverted to the pub on the way home and had a swift pint so feel much more human. I daren't post my food consumption but needless to say, biscuits still feature heavily as do loads of cups of tea and coffee and I was even tempted to have a sneaky fag today but didn't. Ahem.

I have an EAT next door to me and they do the most fabulous soup so I think my veg portions have been substantially increased since I found them.

Am working from home tomorrow, yippee, then one more week at work and then MY FIRST WEEK OFF. I can't wait.

Hope all the poorly ones get better soon.

unknownrebelbang · 03/04/2008 21:02

Back at work today, and I feel sooo much better! .

Thanks for all making me feel "normal" whatever that is, about my woes. I hate to whinge (no really) but I felt better just by typing it up iykwim, and then seeing others know where I'm coming from helps.

  • Sunscreen yy.
  • No booze.
  • No exercise.
  • Lots of water, aim for 2 litres a day, no, Ah, weak tea on tap. My colleague sure knows how to look after me, lol.
  • Apply body cream as often as possible, lax
  • Use hand cream, lax
  • Go to bed early, midnightish. Awoken sharply by DH at 2.30ish, I couldn't tell what he said, even after he repeated it three times, and he has no recollection this morning. And the git forgot to reset the alarm, so that went off at 6am, and he made a pig's ear of resetting it. My nocturnal habits used to be so much more fun.
  • Eat healthily - Well, I at least managed a little bit of proper nutrition today, oh but DH treated me to a Gregg's Bake went we nipped up to town at luncthime.
  • Be happy. Better today.

DS3's former teacher has been nominated for some national teacher's award and I'm "dead chuffed" for her. (knew about the nomination a while ago, but she's now progressed through various stages) and is heading towards the finals. Don't quite know all the details, but she's at the stage now where they're going to be interviewing folks for their opinions of her, next stage is the national final.

She is a fab teacher, if occasionally unorthodox, who came to teaching as a mature student within the last 5-6 years. She has taught all three of my lads at various stages, but taught DS3 for three years and has been brilliant with him. (He's has some difficulties, but she "gets" him iykwim).

Prufrock · 04/04/2008 14:23

duch - no, a long walk with dogs and ds is an amble, because we have to go at his pace, and he insists on stopping often to check out sticks and other things on the ground. We've just been out to some gorgeous beech woods near us and if I have to hear "Look mummy is this a sign of spring?" one more time I will scream. I don't mind so much when he's pointing to new leaves, but rocks and dog turds....

I've realised that I don't cope well without a routine. Roll on Tuesday and back to school

Iris100 · 04/04/2008 14:39

Hello everyone, am back to this thread post name change (was FF the Snoo) for a while. Have had a bit of a RL crisis (some of you will remember dh had affair) and have been dealing with fall-out from that and healthy eating has gone completely down the pan (along with eating in general) and TOO MUCH wine.

But...the sun is out today and the thought of having to wear summer clothes has brought me panicking back to bootcamp! I will draw a veil over the cheese and pickle sandwich I have just eaten and concentrate on the healthy stir fry I have planned for supper.

Gad to hear everyone is ok - L and S congratulations! A baby boy, aw am feeling v clucky. Enjoy these first few days and get as much rest as you can.
