Benefit They’re Real mascara - formulation changed?

ThinkingAgainAndAgain · 14/04/2024 22:47

I’ve used this mascara for years and loved it, primarily because it had never smudged on me. Bought a new one last week, and it’s smudged every day that I’ve worn it. Nothing else about the products I’ve used has changed, so I’m wondering if it is a new formation of mascara?

Wet and clumpy?

I thought it was just me.

neverendingcold · 15/04/2024 06:22

Noooo

Any possibility it's because it's brand new and now it's been exposed to air it will thicken up a bit?

ThinkingAgainAndAgain · 15/04/2024 08:29

This one is completely different to any other They’re Real I’ve had. I’ve used it for years. And this one is smudging all the time, it’s never done that before, and that’s the reason I’ve kept buying it, it’s been so reliable. I’ve recommended it loads of times too.

Im gutted. I haven’t bought it for about a year as I had an extra one in my stash (for times like this!) but now I need to find a new smudge-proof mascara.

Yes yes yes!! I've used it for years but the one I currently have keeps transferring off my bottom lashes on to my skin. I have long bottom lashes and you can clearly see where the ends of my lashes are depositing mascara onto my face. It's not even like it's when the mascara has just been applied so is wet. It's just throughout the day and is a bit embarrassing!!

Cadela · 15/04/2024 08:51

Yes it’s pissed me off massively. I’ve used it since I was in my early 20s and never strayed. Now it’s shite, WHY do they do this.

If anyone has any recommendations I’m all ears.

ThinkingAgainAndAgain · 15/04/2024 14:47

It’s such a shame. I’m really disappointed. Hoping for a recommendation of a smudge proof mascara.

Make a complaint and ask for your money back!

Kianai · 15/04/2024 14:50

So glad I'm not the only one who has noticed.

Also awaiting recommendations, it's so annoying when brands do this.

massistar · 15/04/2024 15:19

Oh I thought it was just me! Mine has ended up all over my face with my new one. How annoying!

Fonty · 03/05/2024 11:31

Anyone found any others yet? I also thought it was just me. I have to put a light powder underneath my lower lashes & on the lid, but even this isn’t smudge proof. So annoying.

ThinkingAgainAndAgain · 03/05/2024 11:40

I’ve switched to a tubing mascara, and that doesn’t smudge at all. I’m used to taking all of my eye make up off really quickly with micellar water, but tubing mascaras don’t completely come off that way, so that’s a change. But I like the mascara. It is maybelline sky high, in a far pink case, I’ve bought it in brown. I think it was about £11.

I’m so glad i’ve found this thread & it’s not just me! I’ve used benefit they’re real since 2017 & the past 2 i’ve bought haven’t been the same & been smudging above my eyelid throughout the day- so frustrating & embarrassing!
For those asking for recommendations- i’ve just tried Avons wondercurl (yellow tube pink writing) & it is absolutely AMAZING!! Made my lashes look lovely & long in one swoop, no clumping, no smudging through the day. £9.50 full price so fraction of benefit price …. I got it on offer in book 2 for £13. Highly recommend trying it

thebinkster · 30/08/2024 15:02

The best one I've tried for ages is girl gone bad from Aldi for about £6.00.

NeverMindTheBackProblems · 30/08/2024 15:11

I've been converted to L’Oreal Panorama after seeing a thread on here recently. It's brilliant. Doesn't smudge at all. Gives me lovely long thick lashes. Better than They're Real (even before it changed!) by a mile.

Elyalbert · 30/08/2024 15:13

I noticed this too.

JustGettingStarted · 01/09/2024 12:49

I haven't used the original Benefit version in many years. The Primark and Aldi dupes have been just as good. Give the Primark version a try. At least it won't cost a lot.

InfradeadToUltraviolent · 01/09/2024 12:51

What does the Primark dupe look like/what's it called please?

BlackShuck3 · 01/09/2024 12:53

Benefit they are real mascara?
Do you mean that other brands of mascara are not the real thing op?

Edited

Err no. It's a make of mascara called "They're Real!", by a firm called Benefit. The implication is that the mascara is so amazing that people will think that you have false lashes on.

I'm sorry to disappoint you, you seemed delighted to have caught somebody out in an apostrophe crime.

Petesdragoness · 01/09/2024 18:51

I love the they're real mascara, I wouldn't say smudged is the right word but I find it flakes off in bits at end of the day? It looks amazing during the day but I've been finding when I've finished work it falls off and irritates my eyes and I can see black bits all over my eye bags and inside my pupil. I only discovered it 1 year ago so I wonder if I've only had the new formula?

I don't remember but it's in silver packaging I think. If you Google "Primark Benefit mascara dupe" you should find it!

JustGettingStarted · 03/09/2024 23:24

It's called Wonderlash!
