What would you wear age 43, size 22, for a night out dancing?

As the title says really! I prefer dresses, knee length, short sleeves, budget ideally under £100 but would go over for the right dress. Any colour but prefer black/blue/green/patterned, not keen on white/cream/yellow/orange. I've been looking on Next, M&S, John Lewis, Yours & Simply Be but nothing's quite right. It's a fun night out so I don't want a wedding outfit look, but need something that flattering on me (not too tight, short etc). Any suggestions?

OMG stop it. I love green and LOVE sparkles and want this. But I don't go anywhere so would have to wear this in my kitchen to dance 😂

Actually that doesn't sound like a bad idea!

@namechange0998776554799000 let us know what you go for ❤️

I like stuff from here....like this jumpsuit..model may be similar size to you and looks fab
https://www.closetofstyle.co.uk/products/pleated-jumpsuit

They are "one size fits all styles" and very comfy, stretchy and loose but can be belted in. And bargain price so fine for one/very occasional wear! Go glam with earrings and heels.

I'll definitely take a look, I like the way the models are realistic and so I can actually see what I'll look like - rather than buying something modelled on a glamazon then being sorely disappointed when I try it on!

I'm definitely tempted by the green sequins, and I love the black sequin Live Unlimited one too. I might order a few to try on and see how they feel

They would be my choices too. They're both gorgeous 😍

I tried the green sequined dress on in one of their shops a few weeks ago - it was fabulous! Very flattering (I'm an 18) and looked great, would definitely recommend it. Sadly I have nothing coming up that I could justify buying it for 😥.

I have a couple or corduroy skirts that are just above the knee, one is white stuff one is fat face which a pair with a vest/shirt sleeve/long sleeve/lacy top depending on occasion, thick black tights and doc martens, the shirts have pockets that fit my phone for added convenience! Ideal for nights out dancing, the dark purple is ideal for rockier vibes and teal for a bit gentler look.

Check out www.popsyclothing.co.uk - they have lots of different dresses in fun prints, do several flattering styles (all of which seem to have pockets!), have plenty of images that people have added of themselves wearing the dresses (and other clothing too but mainly it seems dresses and then things to go with them), go up to size 24 and look comfortable to wear...

Also have a look at mountainwarehouse and Brakeburn - they also have lots of easy to wear dresses if you're feeling like a dress - lots of daytime ones (including ones that are UV rated on the hope that we have a good summer!) but some that are suitable for dressing up in the evening.

Finally, check out shopcider.com - I first came across them on Facebook and ignored as I don't usually succumb to Facebook ads - but talking to my sister and another friend, both of whom had tried them and had good items - I was really pleasantly surprised. they go up to a 28 and are really good value - I needed some trousers for a funeral at short notice and could have kept several of the pairs (or ordered in a different size if I'd had time - I just got a random selection of sizes and styles in the hope that something would fit!). I ended up with some wide legged trousers with really decent pockets (I know not everybody is obsessed like me but I hate how women's trousers never have decent pockets!) and were really comfy. I will now be ordering some more cheerful stuff for summer as I'm not pressed for time - decent first time orders for both ordering online and then first time you use their app. The trousers I ended up getting that looked great were less than £11 with the discounts!

A black or white blouse or short sleeved top and a colourful print midi skirt.

Peppermintpatty56 · 14/04/2024 17:37

I’m a similar age and size- I don’t like Scarlett and Jo- they’re clothes are “flattering” but to me they’re “typical” clothes that seemed to be offered to plus size women as what we should wear. It’s a real pet peeve of mine!
Anyway, to answer you Op- I would go jumpsuit too, they can be really lovely on, you just have to find the right cut. I also think they can look more current than some dresses.

I always go more simple with clothes but add personality with accessories. I’ve I were going on your night out id wear barrel/wide leg trousers with a tee or cami and a blazer with a chunky sandal or a pointed sling black or flat and a really beautiful bag and chunky gold jewellery.

Nice dress options - https://www.neverfullydressed.com/collections/midi-dresses/products/black-palm-camilla-wrap-dress

Well I've ordered 4 dresses 😳 The black sequins, green sequins, a Scarlet & Jo one and a leopard print one from ASOS. I'll let you know which one/s I like on!
