What gives you the ick for no particular reason ?

When I was younger I would have loved to have had longer nails but sadly they used to break easily so they've been short my whole life. Odd now then that when I see those long talon nails ( incompatible with real life imo) that they totally give me the ick....like a small repulsion on sight. 😖

What's your irrational 'ick'?

Middle aged men in sports cars or soft tops
Bodybuilders
Long hair
Poor hygiene
Certain names but I won't say which ones

smellslikecinnamon · 14/04/2024 20:02

Are people actually getting the ick from these things or do they just not like them.

The ick is a visceral reaction. I can't see why anyone would get a visceral repulsion towards a baby in designer clothes or distressed furniture

It’s just lighthearted. I obviously don’t have a strong physical reaction when I see babies in tacky designer outfits. I just cringe a bit inside.

Open toed sandals worn with tights so you can see the reinforced bit over the toes.
Pop socks with the tops visible, especially under skirts.
Men in jogging bottoms with no pants so far too much anatomy is clearly outlined.
The ear stretcher things. Both with and without jewellery in them, but especially without.
Fingernails cut so short that they’re kind of embedded in the finger with flesh on all four sides.
Elderly people who’ve overdone the sunbathing and look like raw beef. I don’t understand how they aren’t in agony.

Bigtrip2026 · 14/04/2024 20:42

Just thought of another one...male cyclists and their cycling shorts...there is nothing appealing about the front view.

Long toes clawing their way over the end of sandals that are either too small or too wide so that the owner's feet have slipped forward. Especially if the toenails are discoloured and/or obviously dirty. And men's feet in general. And bare feet with mud squelching between the toes. Summer can be difficult 😳 Feet of kids under the age of about 5 are usually adorable.

Cliff hangers we call toes like that😂

Justleaveitblankthen · 14/04/2024 22:46

Full Beards, particularly those long monstrosities.
They repulse me, It's visceral 😔

Partial to sexy stubble though 😂

IntertwiningLeaves · 14/04/2024 23:01

having pieces took out of cheeks to make a hollow face.
Most clothes on the market now - regardless the price point, shit elastic and scratchy fabrics.
Everyone wearing black. Shoot me but it's a working class thing in many towns, head to toe black polyester. I wish the world, no matter it's budget, would colour up a bit.

IntertwiningLeaves · 14/04/2024 23:03

I also don't like beards, and facial landscaping (manscaping). It is rare that a man suits a beard, and only brian blessed truly pulls it off (swoon).

CheeseSandwichRiskAssessment · 14/04/2024 23:25

Yes to elastic waists (just why, they're not needed if your trousers are the right size) and black or navy raincoats, they all look so drab and cheap.

People out shopping in their pajamas.....happens all the time round here!

What??

Not around here (South East).

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 14/04/2024 23:54

Feet, regardless of what nick they are in, and even my own. I always paint my toe nails regardless of the time of year, and I use a foot file/cream, but I just can’t stand open toes. I think this comes from working in a shoe shop on a Saturday while I was at school.

CJ0374 · 15/04/2024 00:20

@IntertwiningLeaves and facial landscaping (manscaping)
No idea why, but I'd always thought manscaping meant trimming their pubic hair and not in reference to facial hair? 😬

0rangesandlemon · 15/04/2024 07:04

Chins with a line down like a bum. Sorry. Like John travolta

Yes, good call. Black leggings or jogging bottoms, black trainers, black hoodie, black puffer. On EVERYONE. So boring, so lacking in any style or imagination. Just miserable.

I don't think this looks ick

LoobyDop · 15/04/2024 14:45

🤷🏼‍♀️ different people have different tastes. Maybe “ick” is a bit strong, but I don’t like those pleather leggings and I don’t think they look good even if you have perfect legs. They’re just too “sausages wrapped in plastic” and they look sweaty.

DonnasShrugaleros · 15/04/2024 17:34

Long toenails.
Those long puffa gilets, jackets without sleeves.

Verv · 15/04/2024 17:57

Blue/Pink/Purple etc dyed hair.

Chewbacalava · 16/04/2024 20:52

Dresses or skirts with deliberately uneven hem lines - especially ones high at the front and low at the back, and ones longer at the lines.

Mintearo7 · 16/04/2024 21:12

Unpopular opinion but keep seeing young ladies (under 30) who don’t dress in a flattering way. They are overweight or bigger but wear clothes too tight with fat rolls hanging out. Understand body confidence is rife now but clothes do come in bigger sizes for a reason. Are mirrors not cool anymore?

I don't think this has anything to do with body positivity though - probably the opposite! I know a good few people who say they're a size 8/10/whatever when they clearly aren't.

If there was better acceptance of all sizes, they would be more likely to dress in their actual size without shame.

Also, if shops only go up to a size 14/16/18 as is true for a lot of them, (less so 14/16, bit certainly 18+), it isn't true that clothes exist in bigger sizes; some clothes exist in bigger sizes, but they sell out quickly if they're in any way nice and not too expensive. Like it or not, we are on average bigger these days, but clothes shops seem to think otherwise when it comes to stocking bigger sizes 🤷‍♀️

I agree with you. It really is horrible to look at, I think it is the body positive message they have all been fed. Whist I think it's ok to be happy whatever your size, no one needs to see it all hanging out.
I appreciate I'm old fashioned and was a teen back when the Kate moss waif look was popular. If it's too small don't wear it. I believe there are phone filters now to make people thinner😁 So I guess mirrors are not cool.

MoonWoman69 · 17/04/2024 07:16

@Mintearo7 I absolutely agree.

As a bigger woman, (not half as big as I used to be now) I also cringe when I see larger women in short tops and fat rolls on show! There's absolutely no need. And in a lot of cases, I don't think it's a body confidence thing, I think it's a case of IDGAF!
If my tops aren't below my stomach, it's not happening! There are clothes out there now that are flattering, fashionable and don't cost a fortune. When I was starting to buy my own clothes, way back when, I was stuck with one shop for the larger sized. And no internet then either!
I know a lot of people get and give grief about leggings, but I'm tall and I've always had skinny legs and no cellulite, so I've been able to wear them. But again, I cringe when I see the virtually see through black, or flesh coloured, cellulite showing ones! Ick!
I always feel quite judgemental when I think like that, but that's probably because I'm aware of how I look and also how I present to other people. A lot of people from what I've seen anyway, lack awareness... And mirrors! 🤣

Football tops anywhere except a football pitch.

Siblings of different ages dressed in matching clothes.

Gilets.
