Rise & Fall-sizing and quality?

I've been getting a lot of R&F posts cropping up on my social media and I'm very tempted- their clothes look lovely and at a decent price point but I'm very wary of trying anything mail order. I'm short and size 18-20 and while their clothes look roomy and swishy I might just be setting myself up for disappointment. As an example I love COS but can't really fit into any of their more tailored clothes, although I do get on well with their dresses and knitwear. Here's an example of the things I'd like to try from them. Rise & Fall Linen Shirt Dress

Women's Future-Linen Shirt Dress

Premium linen and TENCEL™ Lyocell

I tried some stuff from them before Christmas. I thought the price point was decent too until the items arrived and then I thought it was really bad quality for the price.

Returns/customer service were an absolute nightmare too, really the worst.

Definitely a company I made a mental note to be “never again” .

I was curious when I first read of the brand last year - who wouldn’t want fantastic style and quality for ‘less’.

But I choose clothes on aesthetic grounds - are they lovely, will they be a pleasure to own, will they be an adventure to wear? For me the way to best one’s competitors in the market is to make better clothes - not to bad mouth them on the same pages as presenting the clothes. So I disliked their combative ethos - it doesn’t make the brand seem cool or desirable.

And I found the colours and shapes very disappointing compared to the brands they compared themselves to. Since I’m not planning to spend eternity in a coffin stuffed with banknotes I’m quite happy to spend more for perfection rather than less for almost as good in a drab or harsh colour.

So far it’s a no from me!

There's a sort of Community Clothing, Cos, Oska and Raey, look to it but it's no cheaper than Community Clothing and Cos and compared to actual Community Clothing,Cos, Oska and Raey not nearly as nice.

A lot of it looks like watered down Cos, Oska and Raey and doesn't look as satisfyingly utilitarian as Community Clothing.

Gruelle · 13/04/2024 14:34

Absolutely.

They annoyed me by claiming various items were the exact equivalent of Raey pieces - when even a cursory glance showed that the R&F versions were much more generically cut and in nasty colours. People aren’t stupid - we pay ‘over the odds’ for things because they’re appealing. I don’t want a cheaper version just for the sake of cheapness.

I bought a £160 leather backpack and was so impressed by the quality and value that I bought another in a different colour.

LOVE Rise & Fall!! The quality is sso great and I like knowing that they have a B Corp certificate. I had to size down in the dress I bought (I went for the linen sleeveless with the V neck) - but actually I don't mind sizing down as it makes me feel back to my pre baby bod 😂

I’m always suspicious when old, generally negative, threads about a brand get suddenly resurrected by a gushingly positive first time poster.

Made my first order yesterday, paid extra for next day delivery. Still not here and no tracking info been sent.

Not a great start.

Will keep you posted!

OK so it came today

Got cashmere trousers and jumper

Very very soft BUT Cashmere is a bit thinner than expected for price and advertising. More like m&s / uniglo thickness of cashmere than the brands they quote.

Eg cashmere in the lighter colours - you can can see underwear through the garment

I got mix of M and L. Am normally a 10 to 12. Both sizes good for me, depends how loose a fit you want. If you're a 10 normally would definitely avoid a L though

Keeping a couple of bits, sending some back.

Overall, like it - but you get less for your money than expected

Very much love their sheets - they are very deep and lovely and smooth. Also delighted with their cashmere hoody in bright pink (sadly discontinued) and their bright pink cashmere wrap. Looking at their viridian cashmere wrap as a gift to myself shortly.
