Constant Spending - Is It Just Me?

I seem to constantly be spending money - on skincare, clothes, make up. I buy intentionally, with purpose and do not have anything in excess. Everyone in one toiletries wise, no duplicates for variety. Same with all of the make up, except couple of lipsticks and couple of eyeshadows. All perfume and underwear gifted, all jewellery precious metals, all gifted, do not buy costume (but would like to try).

And despite pretty minimal selection, I seem to always need something either to replace, or something I never had. Just bought my first brow pencil, e.g.

Money out every day or other day. Is it just me being indulgent or does this seem to happen to others?

I don't. Skincare is a con anyway, and I barely wear makeup.

That's probably not what you want to hear, sorry!

Not me..,,I’m a saver…..not bought any clothes or make up this year….I spend on holidays …I like to go away every month…..but very frugal elsewhere

Lentilweaver · 11/04/2024 18:43

I spend a lot on experiences. Have decided I prefer them to stuff. God, I sound insufferably pious.

Madamblueshoes · 11/04/2024 19:18

I'm with you op. Always seem to be at the bottom of a jar of something or other and definitely not extravagant 🤩. It really does add up!

mdinbc · 11/04/2024 19:26

OP, why don't you start keeping track of your beauty and fashion spending. It might be a bit of a wake-up for you, and you can see where to cut back.

for beauty, I really only buy when I need something. Since the beginning of the year I have only replaced my toner, and I am due a new face cream soon.

BigPretty · 11/04/2024 19:34

I hardly ever seem to buy make up tbh and I wear it most days. I have no idea how it lasts so long except that maybe I don't use a lot of it per day?

Re Skincare, I use a subscription service and get a cream to use every night. Aside from that, I only use make up remover, cleanser, moisturiser and SPF.

Clothes are my weakness tbh! I'm doing a buy nothing new challenge for 12 months to try and counter that. I would buy something every day if I could afford it, so do need to rein it in somehow 😬

MartinLewisIsAmazing · 11/04/2024 19:37

I don't, but I pared everything right back - i use face wash, moisturiser, eye cream, and mascara 😄.

I used to buy a lot more, but I'd rather save my money and time for now.

TunaCrunchy · 11/04/2024 19:39

No I don’t, I get my skincare from Amazon on subscribe and save and don’t buy much make up. I do buy costume jewellery a few times per year.
I am another person who prefers experiences to stuff.

Cathbrownlow · 11/04/2024 19:40

I'm the same as you, OP. I seem to always be needing something.

CinnamonJellyBeans · 11/04/2024 19:54

If it's your money, you can afford it and you enjoy your purchases, then why not?

anyolddinosaur · 11/04/2024 19:57

If you post in Style and beauty people may say them too. Post elsewhere and you'll find more women who say not them.

In a word yes when it comes to clothes. But I’ve got better in the last year by renting instead, used John Lewis Rental but mainly LK Borrowed. It’s very good if you need outfits for events and also because it really lets you work out if you like something and if you do you can ultimately buy it, done this twice now. But there are quite a few things I’ve borrowed on the rental scheme that I would otherwise have thought of buying & maybe from one try on would have kept but with having it for longer you can really work out if it works with your wardrobe. In the main I’ve decided not to buy any of the rented items which in turn has reduced my willingness to buy stuff generally. I’ve also used the Toast scheme where you can take back old things & get token to use on other 2nd hand toast stuff. It’s good actually but appreciate those particular shops aren’t everyone’s cup of tea. I think I’ve realised I enjoy the activity of shopping more than actually acquiring the stuff.

Can you afford it ? Are you in debt with cards or overdraft ? Are you paying all your bills ? No savings for a rainy day ?

Are you depressed looking for a high ?

If all no then lucky you enjoy yourself
