Why is everything sized S, M,L....nowadays?

So annoying!

I am a size 14 in most clothes, if I was looking for between sizes I would look for a 14-16 but so many clothes are now sized M which is 12-14,most likely too small & L which is 16-18, so too big.
This is especially in nightwear, sportswear, cardigans/hoodies and now looking for a beach kaftan they are also sized this way.

Having to shop on line with sizing doesn't help as I can't try them on.

Anyone else irritated by this? I hate shopping at the best of times and this is not helping 😂

This annoys me as well. It’s probably ok if you happen to be between the “right” sizes but if you aren’t then it doesn’t work.

I’ve also found a lot more places are offering unisex clothes, particularly tops. Which basically means cut for men but they’ll pretend it works for women as well.

I’m irritated by clothing sizes in general. It’s ridiculous. In some places I’m a size S, others I’m a size M.

I recently ordered size 10 trousers from M&S, because their sienna jeans in size 10 fit perfectly, but the trousers were huge.

I ordered the next size down. They were still huge.

In one shop last year where I tried on clothing I ended up taking 3 sizes of everything in. I bought a pair of size 16 trousers and a pair of size 8 trousers. I’m a size 10!

Im not buying anything else this year, I’m going to just wear what I already own. That’ll show em 😏

It's the consistency that is the problem
You say where you shop, a large is 16-18
The shops I go to, a 16 is XL and an 18 is XXL

TheOGCCL · 11/04/2024 14:54

It's cheaper to make 4 sizes than 8. It's along the same lines as everything being oversized now so nothing needs to fit you exactly. Just drape fabric over yourself.

Plus now the sizing is all over the place whilst at the same time there are no detailed measurements listed against online items.

Things between XXS and L fit me (as an old school 10).

I have the same problem as a small is 8-10 and I'd prefer a 10-12 in most things although I'm a 10, 8 is just a wee bit of a push . Hoodies are ok sized up though so id get a large and imagine a kaftan will be as well

Deathraystare · 11/04/2024 14:57

I can usually bet on being a XXL (size 20) but sometimes it is XXXXL! So if they don't show the measurements I don't bother.

Sizing is a chuffing nightmare these days. Depending on which shop I’m buying from, I can be small, medium, 8, 10 or 12. Online it’s always a stab in the dark and then the hassle of returns.
