wedding guest 20 weeks pregnant

Hi!
I'm going to a friend's wedding in a month by which time I'll be about 20 weeks along. I can't remember how much of a bump I had with my first child at that point, and I'm not sure how to dress for it.

I've been looking at maternity dresses but they are all either super cheap looking or a bit bland and frumpy. That and I don't know exactly how pregnant I'll look anyway. I have wondered about going for some kind of flowy non-maternity maxi, but I think it might just make me look like a barn, and if so I'd rather clearly signpost that I'm pregnant than swamp myself in fabric.

I'm 5'2" and usually an hourglass size 14. I think I'm looking for something kind of cool and quirky - perhaps And Other Stories vibes? The wedding itself is likely to be smart but relaxed, in a city location - it's a delayed pandemic wedding, so bride and groom are quite chill and just want a celebration. Any thoughts or advice on what on earth to wear would be much appreciated.

In my experience anything maternity from a ‘trendy’ fashion brand always ends up being sacklike.

I personally would look at Club L- they have a vast maternity occasion wear section in all ranges of colours and styles. It’s certainly not quirky- it’s basic, polyester bodycon fare but the quality is actually quite nice, fabric thick and supportive for the bump. I would then accessorise something you like with a lovely headband, great shoes and bag to make it a bit more you.

thanks @NavyPeer! I had been thinking that maybe going for something basic and dressing it up with a great jacket/shoes etc might be the way to go, I'll check them out now.

I think the shape of this dress would look lovely!

I went for something similar when I was pregnant and felt really good.

I looked very pregnant at 20wks with my second (I’m same height as you). I weighed slightly less than with my first I think, but it was all bump from earlier.
I think contemporary styles are a bit barn like with a bump, so for me I’d go for something bland but closer fitting. Would this be too formal? https://www.vinted.co.uk/items/4324539098-luxe-by-seraphine-tayla-ponte-pleated-black-34-sleeved-chiffon-maternity-dress

I was around 20 weeks at my brother's wedding and wore a beautiful dress from Seraphine. They have some lovely occasion wear.

Would something from here work? (Maybe you've already looked!)

Seraphine have nice dresses

MKHM · 14/04/2024 14:19

Seraphine does beautiful occasion dresses and they hold their value too which is great because the time window for wearing it again is very small. I remember buying one on eBay, I wore it once and auctioned it again, and it went for more than I originally paid.

I’d go for a wrap dress. Not maternity wear just general. Maybe one size up, but then size is really flexible and I also found can be worn when breastfeeding if you have another event soon. Let us know what you choose!
