How to grow hair!

Melly1991 · 09/04/2024 22:37

I've been trying to grow my hair now for the past 6 months but can never make it past my shoulders !! Does anyone know the best supplements or oils to help stimulate at least a couple of inches? I am trying everything such as laying off heat styling tools etc... I see so many beautiful styles with long hair and I'm just not having any luck growing it Sad

Shoulder-length hair is a nice and good length, I think!
You can still do a lot of different styles with that length.

Do you trim the ends of your hair?

6 months is not a very long time. Maybe you need to give it more time?

Making sure your iron levels are OK is important. I always here people suggest biotin too although I never remember to take mine regularly enough to gauge any impact. I have just started taking collagen and a good multi vitamin with extra iron. Massaging your scalp regularly with oils infused with rosemary is also meant to promote a healthy scalp in order to grow hair.

UK Lash do some supplements and products. I can’t vouch for those products but their lash growth product is amazing!

The best thing for hair growth is rosemary water that you spray in your hair everyday in the morning or evening. Make sure you oil your hair at least once a week, I use coconut oil. You also need to do scalp massage every evening, this stimulates blood flow and will nourish your hair roots. (It also feels great) I have been doing this for a while and my hair has changed dramatically. It was quite thin and only grew to my shoulders now it is much thicker and hardly any falls out. It is now half way down my back and in great condition.

SevenSeasOfRhye · 10/04/2024 08:29

The maximum length of your hair is genetically determined. Mine won't go much past my shoulders even though it hasn't been cut (just split ends trimmed) for decades.

You can improve its condition as pps have suggested, so that it grows to its maximum length without breakage, but there will always be a natural limit to growth.

bryceQ · 10/04/2024 08:33

I wonder if a lot is just genetic. I have very long hair and don't do much. I do notice growth slows down when I'm stressed or not as healthy. I wash my hair once every 6 days and oil it overnight before wash day.

CinnamonJellyBeans · 10/04/2024 08:46

as @SevenSeasOfRhye says, if your hair is not thin or breaking, it's likely that the lifespan of each hair is shorter than you were hoping.

Lots of people love long hair, but shorter styles can often be more flattering around your face, as they can highlight good bone structure and adjust features you're not happy with.

A protein rich diet ime
I went on a high protein diet for muscle growth about 2 years ago. Hair and nails grow noticeably faster so I sadly have to have my highlights done more frequently and I have stopped painting my nails because I cba with the upkeep

Use a silk pillow case.

only use silk hair bobbles
no heated tools.

always use heat protection if you use a hair dryer and let your hair air dry for as long as possible and then only use the hair dryer on lowest setting.

weekly hair mask.

oil your ends lightly every evening before bed.

head massages to increase blood flow.

Do you make the rosemary water? If so, how?

stardust777 · 10/04/2024 11:01

It sounds crazy but I'm convinced that doing this for five minutes per day has helped my hair grow (although sadly not the areas affected by traction alopecia):

So funny reading this. I’ve been on a similar path the last 18 months and I’ve experienced the same. I used to regularly get my nails done but don’t any longer. I have to keep them short and clear varnished as the upkeep was too much.

So OP I eat quite a high protein diet of around 120g/day on average (1.6. - 2.0g per kg of body weight) for my strength training. I noticed my nails first before my hair. My hairdresser actually asked me if I’d been taking Biotin. I wasn’t experiencing any thinning but I’ve had lots of new growth.

With specific regard to your hair length, as PPs have said, that’s genetically determined by how long the growing phase lasts before the follicles go into their dormant phase.

In line with protein, iron levels are really important for hair so make sure you have enough and maybe take a supplement. I like Nutrition Geeks for supplements.

KirstenBlest · 10/04/2024 11:35

If your hair is like mine @Melly1991 , it grows very slowly.
If I had regular trims it would not get any noticeably longer.

Lovingthegrungerevival · 10/04/2024 15:25

Nutrihair is a great supplement. I'm currently using Viviscal which has good reviews too.

Lovingthegrungerevival · 10/04/2024 15:26

I forgot to say - my hair is waist length and highlighted and is styled every day one way or another so takes quite a bit of punishment but I take very good care of it.

Melly1991 · 10/04/2024 16:27

Thank you so much all!!

I've been very blessed to date in the hair and skin department - good genetics from my lovely mum so I can't really claim much credit there. I am a big fan of hair supplements though and eat well. I also second the silk hair bands and pillow cases.

Don't forget you need to allow up to 6 months to see whether anything you try is making a difference so persevere. Good luck! 😊

How did you make the water pls

Melly1991 · 10/04/2024 17:15

@Lovingthegrungerevival you and your mum are so lucky. Thank you! I am going to post photos of my hair in Jan and then yesterday. So basically 3 months roughly. I've been using a scalp oil and haven't had a trim

Any recommendations for silk hair bands pls?

Melly1991 · 10/04/2024 22:18

@yogagivesmepeace had these years ago, ruined my hair ... I think those are what have caused me to have the issues with my growing

www.google.com
I've been using this and I've seen a definite improvement in breakage.

I also really rate this shampoo, I get mine for £9.99 in Tkmaxx.
