Apparently this is the M&S dress of the season according to the Telegraph...duelling banjos chic?

Honestly, what strikes me is how weird the whole 'seams directly down the front over both nipples' thing would look on me...?

theworldie · 08/04/2024 10:33

Yep - white trash chic. She just needs a headscarf and dirty bare feet.

Horribly unflattering length too.

blackcherryconserve · 08/04/2024 10:36

Awful dress.

MotherofGorgons · 08/04/2024 10:36

Heh. Definitely Deliverance. Soo ugly. And I like me a bit of M and S.

Aparecium · 08/04/2024 10:44

I love princess seams, and I would buy it in an instant - if the seams were on the inside. I hate the scruffy look of the frayed external seams.

BigPretty · 08/04/2024 10:46

Don't like

BarrelOfOtters · 08/04/2024 10:49

According the fashion people at the Telegraph we are all wrong...

The price? £45. The waiting list? Thousands strong. The Dress has sold out twice already, with ... (sign up on the website to be alerted as soon as the new batch lands). I’ve bought one, as has the colleague I sit next to at The Telegraph and another I see at the tea station every day. We will need to coordinate, so as to avoid a denim double up at the office…
For a denim piece, The Dress polishes up very well and could indeed be worn in demi-corporate settings as well as the truly casual ones. It’s all in the cut; the waist-skimming line is emphasised further by its statement seam details, which all adds up to a rather elegant silhouette. The thickness of the cotton material means it smooths over and flatters the figure, rather than bunching or clinging.

I couldn't wear that.

Od look like someone had stuffed a space hopper and a football in to one leg of some Levis.

Fookintired · 08/04/2024 10:56

I don't like it. I hate the length and I have a thing about seams that are decorative. The seams remind me of a Victorian wedding dress (the corset bit) or a ruffly outfit on a porcelain doll. Denim jeans yes, denim jacket yes. The fact that it's sleeveless makes it more forgiving but the length and a line aspect - just no.

SingingSands · 08/04/2024 11:08

That's a vast expanse of denim. I suspect it only looks good on tall willoughy figures.

peoplearepeople · 08/04/2024 11:27

It's giving me Prisoner cell block H from the 80s vibes.
Looks like a very hard dress to wear. Especially if you have a larger chest.

MorrisZapp · 08/04/2024 11:28

Primark has a long skirt with similar seams, much more wearable.

😂 oh god - yes!

White trash chic eh

I'm not keen on sleeveless dresses but other than that I like it. I like the raw seams. And far from being difficult to wear I think it's a very easy to wear dress. I'm very far from being the almost mythical tall and willowy person who apparently is the only type of person who could wear this or so many other dresses.

"White trash" is a foul expression. It's possible to say "I don't like this dress"

This is the £45 M&S dress of the season – and the alternatives if you’ve missed out

Balancing femininity and casualness, this ultra-versatile hero piece has already sold out twice

Bit indifferent to it really.

Astariel · 08/04/2024 13:13

I don’t really see why this is controversial.

I would like shit in it. But that is neither here nor there. It’s a pretty ordinary denim dress.

DottyPencil · 08/04/2024 13:17

I've seen it 'in the flesh'. It looked like decent denim.
I liked it but as a dumpy 60 year old, I walked on.
I would have bought it 30 years ago though.

EvenStillIWantTo · 08/04/2024 13:21

Who would it suit? Sleeveless, high necked, the length is awfully dowdy, the shape is a bit nondescript and the seams look very cheap.

LunaNorth · 08/04/2024 13:46

Looks like something Cleetus's sister would wear to their wedding.

I'm y'all and Willoughby and would not be seen dead in that dress.

It's horrific. The stuff of trailer park dreams.

There's nothing controversial about it. I quite like it although probably wouldn't buy it. It's a wearable, every day dress. Can't see anything to justify the shock and horror it's generated.

LightSpeeds · 08/04/2024 13:56

I think you could make it look good - with some effort...

ASighMadeOfStone · 08/04/2024 14:02

Last week there were articles all over the place about this dress not being in stock, while the almost identical one but less fitted one (and thus way more casual) in Hush wasn't.

I don't think either are Deliverance style, but both have that faded denim thing that just makes them look cheap.
