I'm looking for a pair of shoes, but can't find quite the right ones ...

however, I'm pretty sure that Mumsnet can find them.

I'm looking for a pair of wide-fitting slingbacks. They need to have a low heel or would consider flat, preferably with an adjustable or stretchy heel strap. Not too pointy in the toe. Dull gold, but would also consider brighter gold, bronze or nude. They have to be comfortable. UK size 6.5 or 7, EU size 39/40.

Thanks in advance.

These are in Wide E and Extra-Wide EEE, on Irish Oxendales but I think you have that in UK too

I'm in Ireland too @SageRosemary and I like those Oxendales shoes. (The first ones, I've always had an irrational dislike for espadrille type rope soles.)

Ah, that's handy, you won't be caught with custom charges so! Do you want to say your nearest shopping town so someone might have an in-store recommendation?

Do you like the shoes enough to order them or is there anything that's not quite right? They are fairly classic looking and are nice styled with jeans too so that's some extra wearability.

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 07/04/2024 18:44

I hate shopping in person, although I suppose for shoes I should give it a go to check for fit. I'm in south Dublin so not short of places to shop, I just don't like going there, especially Dundrum which might actually be a hellmouth.

The red of those Moshulu shoes would probably work with my dress @CharlotteStreetW1 but they say their fit is between D and E and I am probably at least an EE. I can squeeze into an E but I won't like it much and will be whinging about needing to sit for the whole day.

I have checked Dune and none of the shoes are quite what I had in mind. I have also checked Next and they have several that are right, but don't have stock in my size. Next does have a couple of very nice bags like this and this one by Dune.

I was in a shoe shop yesterday (to visit some Fly London sandals) and I say a brand called Hassia that I'd never seen before. Anyway, here's a link. In reality, these looked duller in colour and slightly more textured. They look like they might have a little elasticated section under the adjustable strap, apologies I didn't take more notice. They are a wee bit over budget but do look comfortable. Maybe you can find a stockist in Dublin

Hassia 302694720 - Extra Wide Fit Pump

The classic sling shape looks simple but still makes a statement! At HASSIA we only use high-quality premium materials, so even the firm footbed is covered in lambskin. The softly padded lining on the forefoot ensures a comfortable fit. Enjoy the comfo...

Both bags you linked are lovely

@BlackAmericanoNoSugar Have you looked at Gabor? They do various styles similar to what you describe, mainly in nude. They do different heel heights too. Have a Google of “Gabor sling back” and see what you think 😊

My feet sound very similar sized/width to yours too! Sizing is a nightmare at this particular size as the UK/EU conversion is thrown off. UK6 = EU39, UK6.5 = EU40, UK 7 = EU 41. Lots of high street stores don’t stock half sizes so they stock a 40 as a 7 rather than a 6.5.

If you like the Gabor options, I would go for a 40 in their standard fit. If any of the styles happen to be “comfort fit” or “G fit” as they call it then I’d recommend the 39 😊 (I sell the brand)

As recommended above, Hassia may also be a good option 😊

Those Hassia shoes are lovely. I bought some JD Williams slingbacks from Next in the end. They hadn't been labelled properly so weren't coming up on the wide-fitting filter I only found them when I looked at all the gold shoes, they are EEE and reasonably comfortable, I think they will be perfect with some of those party feet thingys. It goes well with the gold handbag, which is big enough to hold a pair of soft ballet shoes in case I need to swap my shoes towards the end of the evening.
