Lip stain .. or tint… just subtle lippy stuff!

Hi team!

You have helped me with your super tips and knowledge before so thought I’d come back!!

My lips need some colour! However I really don’t like lip stick or gloss or anything which doesn’t look or feel natural. My aim with make up is to look like me but a bit better.

I’ve used lip stain in the past and found it drying… but I liked the overall effect. I’ve never used tints. I’m fair skinned but with dark brown hair and hazel eyes (Grandma was a red head - I have hints of her without the fiery hair, I get freckles and burn in the sun). This seems to mean that true reds look ok but I can’t pull off that vibrant glamorous 1950s red lips look.

Does anyone have recommendations of brands or even colours of ‘lip make up’? I’m happy to pay for quality but if a cheap option would do the job that’s even better!

I love the Vaseline Rosy Lips lip balm, but the version in the stick form rather than the tin. It gives a very subtle, natural pink colour and is an excellent moisturising lip balm. It lasts ages without re applying too.

No7 HydraLuminous Lip Balm. I use raspberry which just gives a hint of colour. It doesn't feel sticky

iffyi · 07/04/2024 17:18

glossier ultralip or generation g are both good

WhereAreWeNow · 07/04/2024 18:19

If you don't like lipstick, you could try Glossier cloud paint. It's a tint that you smudge onto cheeks and lips. Sounds like you might suit the shade Storm. Barry M do a good dupe.

Burt's Bees tinted lip balm. Other tinted lip balms like Maybelline Baby Lips are OK too.

I have a Clinique chubby stick one and it looks lovely, colour is gorgeous and it seems to last about 5 seconds on me.

Invisimamma · 07/04/2024 18:39

Clinique almost lipstick.

SoapCollector · 07/04/2024 21:33

Another vote for Burt's Bees tinted lip balm, natural looking colours that are build able.

FayCarew · 07/04/2024 21:42

If you are going for the Burt's Bees, they're the ones in a dark tube.

Is anyone a fan of Victoria Beckham Bitten?

Adverts keep coming up on my Facebook & it looks lovely.

Bearpawk · 07/04/2024 22:24

Rare beauty lip oil is fabulous and lasts ages - I have the coral but there are various shades.
No 7 lip balm too is good. Not as pigmented, more sheer.

TheHeadOfTheHouse · 07/04/2024 22:25

Lip tattoo is what I had done, I would definitely have it done again

learieonthewildmoor · 08/04/2024 04:58

rockstarshoes: I’ve got je t’aime and it is gorgeous. It wears well if you don’t eat or drink.
OP, if you want something for a good price look at Rom&nd Juicy Lip tints. They’re light/sheer and have an amazing range of colours. Look at the “bare” range- bare fig, bare grape, etc. Beautiful MLBB.

ContrarianVitamin · 08/04/2024 10:11

Another vote for Burts Bees - 'Rose' is a perfect 'lips but more' shade; 'Red Dahlia' is a dupe for Clinique's 'Black Honey'. I have at least 5 tubes of them scatted between various handbags and make-up bags.

Ormally · 08/04/2024 10:16

Very cheap and cheerful, but MUA Metamorphosis lip oil.
There is a pinkish one which is originally clear and a redder one which is lovely.
I bought one as a stocking filler for my DD and was then struck with how good she looked (total surprise). I bought the red one for me and the first time I wore it 'out' - I rarely put much make up on as I have a lot of random sensitivity to it - I got a lot of compliments.

MrsWhattery · 08/04/2024 10:17

I’m like this too, don’t like actual lipstick, just a bit of colour that’s not drying. On the expensive end the best I’ve found is MD perricone no-lipstick - it looks like a lipstick in the tube but is very sheer. The original pink and the red are both great. For cheaper ones, I second the Vaseline rose one, also Nivea lip oil in pink stone, Barry M “cor balmy” and Revolution rose pink tinted balm that comes in a tin.

Nonewclothes2024 · 08/04/2024 10:39

Violette.Fr does some lovely lip stains.

FastFood · 08/04/2024 10:51

I have several tinted lip balms from Melixir, way more comfortable than lipstick.

lifebeginz · 08/04/2024 11:00

I like Benefits Posy tint (but it is quite drying) and also Charlotte Tilbury Pillow Talk Lip and Cheek Glow which feels comfortable to wear and is a nice rose pink on me (but there is a darker/intense shade too) which I also use on my cheeks :)

pharmachameleon · 08/04/2024 13:58

I love the No 7 Hydraluminous lip balm. I can't bear the feeling of lipstick on my lips but this is really sheer and comfortable.

Blackcats7 · 08/04/2024 14:04

Another vote for Burts Bees tinted lip balms
