I bought this gorgeous dress from Scamp & Dude. not realising it had a V back. (I know, I know, it says so very clearly in the description and evern has a pic) Do you think a V back would look weird on a 60 year old? (me)

I really like that!! The colours are amazing. A v-back is flattering and won't look "weird" on a 60 year old at all. I hope you are tall though - that model is 5' 7" and wearing heels, and it is still almost ankle-length on her. It would be dragging on the floor on 5' me.

Floisme · 30/03/2024 19:30

Not weird at all. I'm 67 and, provided I could still wear a bra with it - and it doesn't look particularly low in the pic - then I wouldn't give it a second thought.

FormerlySpeckledyHen · 30/03/2024 19:43

Not weird at all, provided the colours and style suit you.

MurderousCheekbones · 30/03/2024 19:44

It's not a very low v at all, I wouldn't bat an eyelid at it.

ShinyAppleDreamingOfTheSea · 30/03/2024 21:36

Of course it would be fine.

RosesAndHellebores · 30/03/2024 21:57

I'm nearly 64. I'd wear it providing my bra didn't show.

RunnerDown · 30/03/2024 22:03

I’m 60 and I would that. It’s not that low at the back

Runnerinthenight · 30/03/2024 23:34

I'm also 60 and would wear it. In fact I bought a sequin top the Christmas before last, and I turned it back to front as I preferred the V at the back to the front.

Ladies, we're not dead yet!!!

ImWatching · 31/03/2024 07:51

I thought it was going to be a really low V.
Thats absolutely fine op. Have you bought it for an occasion? It’s a lovely dress & a bargain.

Divebar2021 · 31/03/2024 07:57

OP if it was a really low back and you felt good in it it would also be fine.

Salacia · 31/03/2024 11:06

I have that dress in a different colour and wouldn’t worry about the back, it’s not that low (doesn’t show the back of my bra if that was your concern!).

It is quite long, I’m 5”2 and it’s just about ok (it doesn’t drag on the floor) but it does look better with heels on me (either chunky 70s platforms or suede boots in the same colour as the spots). It is wearable with flats though. I also often layer it with a chunky jumper so it looks more like a maxi skirt. Or belt it with a cropped cardigan and cowboy boots.

It’s a really comfy dress and I’ve had lots of complements on it!

Thanks everyone! You've reassured me, and love the styling suggestions @Salacia. I didn't buy it for a special occasion. I needed cheering up (recent bereavement, too much wearing black), and loved the colours. Bought it after seeing Alison Hammond wearing it on TV! Then saw it was on sale. Hoping to wear it on sunnier days.

Has the existence of needles and thread passed you by? Easter Grin

Thats what seamstresses / tailors / your local alterations service are for. Why would we assume one mass produced dress would be sold at the exact right length for everybody? Just have it altered to fit.

bradpittsbathwater · 31/03/2024 12:16

Not at all. If you like it wear it. I'm over 20 years younger and my back is not one for displaying but that's my body type not my age!

ranoutofquinoaandprosecco · 31/03/2024 12:57

I have this in a different colour and the v back isn't as low as you think, you can definitely wear a bra with it. I have a bit of a Scamp & Dude addiction!
