Lightweight rain coat for work commute

Hello All

As above looking for a lightweight raincoat for my commute to work in spring/summer.

Usually wear dresses or skirts. Wanting something navy not black. Don’t suit khaki or beige really ( am blonde, fair, green eyed). Am quite short and curvy (5’3 hourglass size 10-12). Hoping to find something flattering! Don’t generally suit double breasted due to curves ( and a 30 G).

I’ve been looking for a while so prepares to invest for soemthing decent. Have tried protected species but the styles just don’t seem to suit me - to get them to fit on the bust they tend to drown me, and find the colours also aren’t that great.

If anyone has any suggestions I’d be very grateful!

I have an Oska one from last year similar to this. It's lightweight and is fine over dresses. The link defaults to the copper colour but it comes in navy too.

@antwacky I’ve tried the Tour and the commuter in Protected species but they are very ‘straight’ cut so don’t seem to suit me - is there a style
youd recommend? I also find the colours a bit murky for me. But yes this is exactly the type of coat/material
im looking for!

My best friend bought one from M&S.

Have a look at Protected Species, they have various styles and colours. I've had mine about four years and wouldn't be without it.

If money is no issue, then Mackintosh? Sizing is generous.

Navy Mackintosh 1
Navy Mackintosh 2
All Mackintosh

I'm your height and really recommend Protected Species

Most of my travel is by car and I find the city walker, which is sold as a jacket but works well for me, as my usual coat. I've worn it v v often for years and it is still immaculate.

The trench coat, which I wear belted, works better when I'm travelling by train.

I have them both in the dark green khaki colour way which works well for my wardrobe. I had to wait some time for the khaki trench coat to come back in stock.

Chitterchatterchoo · 30/03/2024 11:59

Thanks @FinallyHere - perhaps I will try the city Walker and the trench!

@IHaveNeverLivedintheCastle - sadly they are out of my price range but gorgeous!

@Chitterchatterchoo
I've the parka in murky but I'm pretty sure it can be adjusted to cinch the waist from the inside, I've just realised that I've had six not four years. I really like the look of the trench but can't justify buying it, that might suit you.

strugglemama · 30/03/2024 13:44

I didn't even need a rain coat but I want their trench now, it's beautiful!

@IHaveNeverLivedintheCastle

I never knew MacIntosh was an actual brand of rain coat, hence the word 'Mac'. 😊

Yes, it's like hoovers and biros.

I love my protected species, lasted years too.

KeeeeeepDancing · 01/04/2024 00:12

Wow mackintosh are beautiful and so expensive!
Protected species is doable.
Are they stocked anywhere in London to try on?

FragranceDad · 01/04/2024 01:14

As I enjoy doing alot of fishing most of my gear is 100% waterproof. I like to mainly wear anything from berghaus which mostly is made from a highly ventilated ripstop goretex material and is highly waterproof/resistant

deedeemegadoodoo · 01/04/2024 16:24

I bought a Protected Species parka from Vinted after seeing then recommended on here. Brilliant coat. Can be dressed down for a dog walk but smart enough for work (especially if on break duty at my school).
