Stylish London people! What footwear are you wearing if it's wet?

We have been to London the past two Easters and the weather has been nice and dry so I just wore trainers. However we arrive on Easter Sunday for a week and the weather looks wet 😭 I'm thinking my feet will be soaked walking about in the rain. What footwear are you wearing and I can hopefully buy similar when we are there? Thanks!

Chelsea boots with a chunky sole, or combat boots.

pharmachameleon · 29/03/2024 08:50

Thanks @Xiaoxiong. I think I'll need to get similar but wear wide leg jeans so not sure how they'll look.

Chelsea boots with chunky sole here too. It tipped it down last week and my feet remained warm and dry from office to opera and all things in between.

pharmachameleon · 29/03/2024 08:56

Thanks. What trousers do you wear with Chelsea boots? I'm just packing now and getting stressed!

Yes. Ankle boots with rubber soles. Trainers xan be slippery in the rain.

MidnightPatrol · 29/03/2024 09:01

Either Chelsea boots or the leather hiking style ones

mynameiscalypso · 29/03/2024 09:04

I wear cropped jeans with clumpy boots

Somethingsnappy · 29/03/2024 09:11

What do you wear at home when it's wet, just out of interest? If you're anything like me, it's usually wellies, which admittedly mighty look out of place in London! 😆

I wouldn’t think it’s a good idea to try and buy new boots and break them in when you get there! If you’re anything like me, leather boots always result in initial blisters and rubbing which will not be fun if you’re trying to sightsee etc.

Somethingsnappy · 29/03/2024 09:12

Not sure why that's appeared twice, sorry!

pharmachameleon · 29/03/2024 09:19

Yeah I'm worried about wearing brand new boots walking about loads but my only other option is trainers and my feet will get soaked. I have chunky biker style boots from All Saints but they are really stiff and uncomfortable. To be honest I don't really walk about in the rain much at home. If I need to take the dog out I'll wear wellies but I try and stay out of the rain if I can. We won't have that option in London as we've booked lots of stuff so we'll have to go out in the wet.

How much will you actually be walking vs being on a tube or in a taxi or whatever? I wear trainers when it's raining, just make sure they're ones that are waterproof enough (eg leather). I generally only wear trainers in spring/summer so will often get rained on!

wheresmyshoe · 29/03/2024 09:26

I wear mine with dresses mostly or slim/straight leg jeans. I saw a woman on the tube wearing hers with ankle length cropped wool trousers and she looked great.

TheOGCCL · 29/03/2024 09:31

Trainers are ubiquitous so maybe everyone is just getting wet? But pretty sure some trainers are just as waterproof as boots. I have some Stan Smith types ones that don’t let in rain. I think also walking in London is not the same as walking in say a village. You are sheltered by buildings, people, umbrellas and usually dashing in and out of places.

Could you scotchguard your trainers?

The weather does look very disappointing for the week ahead but hope you enjoy anyway!

Rowansiskin · 29/03/2024 09:33

I’m going Sunday for a few days too OP and will be wearing trainers. I’ll only get wet feet if it’s absolutely chucking it down and the forecast looks ok at the moment 🤞. I’m in more of a dilemma over a jacket, need something for if it rains but walking round I’ll be too hot!

Ginmonkeyagain · 29/03/2024 09:33

HOKA trainers mainly at the moment

pharmachameleon · 29/03/2024 09:47

Thanks all. @Rowansiskin I'm taking my Protected Species jackets as they are super light but totally waterproof.
@Ginmonkeyagain aah! I want to like as I know they would be really practical but I don't think I'd wear them enough to justify the cost. All the doctors I work with wear these all the time!

They are sooooo comfy!

RosesAndHellebores · 29/03/2024 10:23

Just as you would elsewhere when it's going to be wet and you are going to be walking a lot. A pair of waterproof, walking trainers.

You may see a few chic or trendy and well dressed people about. Mostly they seem invisible and rarely use public transport. I'm always amazed at how very scruffy and badly dressed most people in London are. It's much smarter in the North of England.

pharmachameleon · 29/03/2024 10:53

@RosesAndHellebores totally agree. I'm from near Glasgow and everyone dresses up sooo much here. London is much more casual plus there's loads of tourists walking about who obviously aren't local.

Camdenish · 29/03/2024 11:00

Just trainers. Some of the York stone pavements are a slippy nightmare in the rain. You can get waterproof trainers but your usual sorts of trainers will do. They’ll dry quickly. Wear them with whatever, trousers, tights and skirts.

Jeans are a soggy nightmare if you’re walking around in the rain.

London rain isn’t as wet as Scottish rain!

dameofdilemma · 29/03/2024 11:51

Leather trainers.
I've got into wide leg trousers and jeans and can't make them work with flat boots.

Could wear skinnies/narrow straight with boots but they feel dated (just me, not saying they are dated!)

DianaBarry5 · 29/03/2024 12:06

My daughter is getting married in May . I have shoulder length straight hair with a fringe and long layers but I'm worried about it looking too casual. Will heated rollers give body rather than curl? I just dont want to waste money as I don't want curls or a news reader look if you know what I mean. TIA
