Stylish London people! What footwear are you wearing if it's wet?

We have been to London the past two Easters and the weather has been nice and dry so I just wore trainers. However we arrive on Easter Sunday for a week and the weather looks wet 😭 I'm thinking my feet will be soaked walking about in the rain. What footwear are you wearing and I can hopefully buy similar when we are there? Thanks!

Sorry wrong thread!

3WildOnes · 29/03/2024 12:22

I live in London and wear leather trainers or boots when its raining. I never wear jeans in the rain as they take ages to dry. Running leggings or dresses usually.

Just trainers. Some of the York stone pavements are a slippy nightmare in the rain. You can get waterproof trainers but your usual sorts of trainers will do. They’ll dry quickly. Wear them with whatever, trousers, tights and skirts.

Jeans are a soggy nightmare if you’re walking around in the rain.

London rain isn’t as wet as Scottish rain!

OP is from near Glasgow and she's asking about footwear for rainy weather? I lived in Glasgow for 3 months and I swear it rained every day.

Agree re London rain and Scottish rain.

pharmachameleon · 29/03/2024 13:03

Very true re Scottish and London rain. I often hear myself saying our rain is very wet sometimes 😂 I'm hoping for dry or just slightly damp rain in London.

Solovair chelsea boots for me in all this rain

DelphiniumBlue · 29/03/2024 13:26

Leather trainers, maybe with a thick sole. I live in London and it's been raining for weeks, I wear either Birkenstock Stalon boots or Fitflop trainers. Haven't had wet feet yet.

MassiveOvaryaction · 29/03/2024 13:47

Get some Sealskinz waterproof socks and then you can carry on wearing your trainers.

Tinymrscollings · 29/03/2024 14:24

Not footwear but I‘ve been in London a lot recently for work and the weather has been almost without exception foul. I’ve noticed that a lot of people weren’t using hoods or umbrellas, but were wearing really brightly coloured beanie hats with their long raincoats, trenches and winter coats in much more sedate colours. It must be a bit of a micro trend because I’ve not noticed similar in my neck of the woods but I dug out a bright coral hat that I haven’t worn for a while and I think it’s a great look for wet weather.

Namehascahnged · 29/03/2024 14:36

dameofdilemma what trainers do you wear please- booys dont suit me either with cropped trousers. Thanks .

Chewbecca · 29/03/2024 14:40

Forecast last week was for daily rain but it barely happened, 🤞same for next week. I'd just wear trainers.
The temperature is pretty warm so I would leave the Big Coat at home.

Didzi · 29/03/2024 15:08

Wetness? You’ll have it worse up north, plus central London has pretty good pavements, so you’ll already have the right shoes.

You sound like you care about style too. So, take those shoes you already own and like most! People dress exactly as they wish in London. I’ve only ever felt judged up north, like I have to wear something glitzy to go out, down here no one cares (everyone’s far too busy/rushing - which is how I like it!).

But since you ask, I’ve been living in clumpy boots, big sole leather, and also Chelsea boot type boots, but now I’m wearing comfy trainers - and it was raining yesterday. But I have sore feet these days, and I walk a lot, Otherwise I might also wear ballet flats. I’ve never really noticed getting wet feet! Take a brolly! Saw someone with trainer covers the other day too, during a wet day, which I thought was clever!

VenetiaHallisWellPosh · 29/03/2024 15:20

I wear trainers everyday. Am saving up for some proper clumpy boots. In London no one cares though. I've live there for nearly 30 years and as long as you're clean and tidy you're good to go.

pharmachameleon · 29/03/2024 15:29

Thanks so much everyone. I had ordered a pair of Reiss chunky Chelsea boots but they are £195 and I feel they might be a waste of money as we are coming into spring and god willing the rain might bloody stop soon!
The trainers I'm wearing just now are black Sambas which I love but they have cream suede at the front which I think will get filthy in the rain. I'm also wearing pink suede Gazelles but they have white laces which will get dirty on the tube I'm sure 🙈 I ordered a pair of white leather Nike Cortez trainers which would have been perfect but they haven't arrived yet. I'll maybe just buy a pair when I get to London.
To be honest these trainers are cheap so not a disaster if they get dirty/wet. They all cost less than £100.

Chelsea boots and trainers

idontlikealdi · 29/03/2024 15:43

Live in London, Nike dunks or DM boots when it's wet. Can't stand having wet feet.

I’ve got a pair of Chelsea boots (non leather) that I got from a local boutique £45 tops. Just as good as leather ones.

@LoserWinner wow! They would cheer up a miserable grey day!
While I have Londoners here I've packed a trench coat (Sezane-it's quite thick), a grey wool unlined double faced coat and my Protected Species raincoat. Will I be too hot?

Just bring both. It’s been a bit cold and windy the past few days but mild and sunny today.

Leather adidas trainers. No problem with wet feet generally!

I wear cropped jeans with clumpy boots

Me too, but I live in Yorkshire, where it seems to have rained every day since October.

You will if you wear them all at once!

I'd personally only bring the raincoat and maybe a gilet to go under it if it's chilly. I live in the midlands and work in London, but luckily only a five minute walk from train to office and five mins each way to Pret!

I've been wearing chunky soled boots with wide leg trousers for work, and with straight jeans for weekends. It does seem to have been raining a lot and while I agree you are more protected by buildings there are still puddles and buses and taxis splash you. No way could I wear ballet flats, they'd be full of water in seconds.

I don't think your laces would get dirty on the tube, btw.

Peaceandquietandacuppa · 29/03/2024 19:59

I wear these with my wide leg jeans, have so many compliments! https://www.drmartens.com/uk/en_gb/audrick-8-eye-boot-vintage-taupe/p/27149348?gad_source=1&gclid=Cj0KCQjwzZmwBhD8ARIsAH4v1gUsGm7N20WK6Wma6XemQvRxPFGwz8Y3Nhj2-F6iPF2ey9BR-bbWgH8aAm0FEALw_wcB and feet are dry as a bone.
