Stylish London people! What footwear are you wearing if it's wet?

We have been to London the past two Easters and the weather has been nice and dry so I just wore trainers. However we arrive on Easter Sunday for a week and the weather looks wet 😭 I'm thinking my feet will be soaked walking about in the rain. What footwear are you wearing and I can hopefully buy similar when we are there? Thanks!

You’ll be too hot. I’d bring a raincoat that can scrunch up small for carrying around indoors. It was supposed to rain today but I must have missed it.

I would only bring one coat and one pair of shoes. If you’re coming by train you will want to travel as light as possible. It’s such a pain having big suitcases on the train.

You will be fine with cream and white bits in your trainers. They might get dirty but box fresh trainers is only really a thing for Roadmen. Are you a Roadman?

tobee · 29/03/2024 20:58

I've been wearing my Mint Velvet platform trainers very successfully in the rain (no slipping over 🤞) here in London. Teamed with wide leg trousers, ankle grazer jeans, boyfriend jeans, whatever.

I feel like the platform height helps me the puddles!

Perfectlystill · 29/03/2024 21:20

It's wet but not particularly cold in London. No one cares what you wear here - that's why I like it. Anything goes.

I wear trainers mostly and occasionally biker boots if monsoon conditions. Or my fur-lined ankle wellies to walk the dog in the park which gets muddy in the rain.

MillyMollyMandy01 · 29/03/2024 21:45

Stan smith trainers - virtually waterpoof, wipe over and cheap to replace,
or, Black leather ankle boots from Hush (for evening out)
or, short welly boots from Joules if it’s really lashing down during the day.

WashableVelvet · 29/03/2024 21:57

DM Chelsea boots with a dress, as that seems to dry out quicker than jeans even when long. Still wearing black tights underneath with an extra pair of socks!

Your light raincoat sounds perfect. I’m yearning for the cool Stutterheim ones I see out and about when up in Scotland but I think they might be too heavy duty for a London commute.

poppyslashtulip · 29/03/2024 22:35

There are so many bloody puddles in London. Trainers are fine if you manage to avoid them. Just bring 2 pairs? They won’t get mucky on the tube 😂

poppyslashtulip · 29/03/2024 22:37

Also maybe you could change the laces in the pink adidas for black?

Treesandsheepeverywhere · 30/03/2024 06:52

London has all sorts so anything kinda goes but can spot a non-Londoner trying ro be a Londoner a mile off.

Wear what's comfortable.

pharmachameleon · 30/03/2024 08:38

Thanks all. I'll maybe not bring my wool coat and just wear my trench and pack my raincoat. @Camdenish I am definitely not a roadman although my son looks like one in his tech fleece clothes.

@tobee I'm bringing my Russell and Bromley platform trainers to wear at night. Though I am cautious in them as I went over my ankle in them one night and fell down some stairs when I was wearing them with a long maxi dress. The bruising on my foot and leg was spectacular!

I wear Blunstone 500 - very comfortable and slip easily on and off.
On my second pair now - first pair lasted 10 years and the leather aged so beautifully I could cry that the soles are worn out.

Get the soles redone! Really easy.

I wear these (but I bought them in autumn and they didn’t have the warm lining) - https://www.drmartens.com/uk/en_gb/2976-alyson-dms-wintergrip-black-chelsea-boots-black/p/24016001

the zips stop water getting in, which was a problem for me in other Chelsea boots. Had these for years and they’re smart enough for work.

PeaceandCakes · 30/03/2024 11:19

Have you checked the forecast? @pharmachameleon

London is showing dry all day until around 7pm when there might be showers.

PeaceandCakes · 30/03/2024 11:21

The forecast for the rest of the week is sunshine and light rain showers.

I'd wear your normal footwear.

If you are in and out of the tube rather than walking across London, you won't get very wet.

pharmachameleon · 30/03/2024 11:58

@PeaceandCakes I'm checking the forecast almost on an hourly basis and I need to stop as it's driving me crazy. I have the BBC weather app on my phone and it's showing showers all day Monday to Thursday. My DH has the Apple weather app and it looks much drier on this.
On a more depressing note the wet weather really gets me down. I would love to live in the south of England but I have my life here, our jobs and friends and family. I just couldn't move until we are at retirement age I don't think. I love London so much and just want everything to go well for this holiday.

I have ordered these to pick up from Next today but I think I might just leave them and take my trainers. Thanks all-so jealous of those that live in London and can't wait to go tomorrow!

As your other boots are painful then don’t get those unless you’re prepared to have them get blisters.

I live in London outskirts and day to day tend to wear to work ballet flats (Fit Flop) or my Chelsea boots or trainers.

Camdenish · 30/03/2024 12:47

I love London, have always lived here, but I visited Glasgow and loved it. I can’t imagine moving there, our lives are here, and I couldn’t cope with the weather. It’s lovely for a break though.

Kindly, you're overthinking this.

Showers usually mean just that! You only need to worry if it's showing heavy rain 24/7.

IME London is easy to navigate in rain. You'll be in cafes, shops, galleries- whatever you do- and can pick your moment to dive into one of them where there is a shower.

Take that good old British staple- the brolly- and stop worrying.

And, by the way, it's been wetter in the south this winter than the north.

Really - where does this?

Chattywatty · 30/03/2024 16:06

Trainers trainers trainers & trainers. Nobody ready wears anything else.

Deathraystare · 30/03/2024 17:52

@TheOGCCL ·
Trainers are ubiquitous so maybe everyone is just getting wet?

Yep. That's me!! I forget to wear blasted boots! Oh and on the wettest days I seem to have trousers that are a bit too long so off I go swoosh swoosh!

Deathraystare · 30/03/2024 17:58

By the way, would not dare to claim to be stylish!......
