What do you really think of DKNY and Mk bags?

im in my late 30’s. Do they look tacky and cheap or okay? I don’t want to look like a teenager (I wish!) what do you think?

I stupidly posted in AIBU where people are telling me not to care! Would you buy one if not why?

Do you mean ones with the name/logo plastered all over them? Tacky as hell, even if you're a teenager, and I would say, ugly. Why are you paying to be free advertising?

Questions124 · 25/03/2024 13:25

No not those ones. I know the one you mean! Something like a black tote with DKNY in small gold letters

That sounds OK but I don't really consider either of those brands to be particularly covetable. How about a Lulu Guiness plain-ish tote instead? I saw a woman with one on the train the other day and thought it looked fab.

Whatevershallidowithmylife · 25/03/2024 13:28

Not for me, but you should absolutely get whatever bag you want to!

botemp · 25/03/2024 13:28

I personally wouldn't because they're really not great quality for the price you're paying, often made in China under poor working conditions. They really are designed for the consumers who want the look of a designer bag but aren't too fussed about the actual quality of it.

Yuckyyuckyuckity · 25/03/2024 13:28

They're just a bit (or very) 2012, MK in particular. Same vibe as platform stiletto heels and bodycon bandage dresses.

FayCarew · 25/03/2024 13:30

The MK ones look cheap and tacky. Can't say I've noticed any DKNY ones.

evilharpy · 25/03/2024 13:31

I think it depends on the bag. Do you have a link to any you like?

I have a little yellow Michael Kors bag that's really pretty and quite unusual and not at all gaudy. It had a dangly MK tag thingy that I just removed.

OneRingToRuleThemAll · 25/03/2024 13:31

I'd think you bought them in TK Maxx. They have loads of MK and DKNY in there.

Bandage dresses are coming back.

But MK bags, in particular, always look cheap to me. The material is always on the plasticky side.

What other brands can I look into? I have no idea when it comes to style and I’ve neglected my appearance for way too long. I’ve been really depressed for many years so I’m trying to change my look to feel different. Don’t want to spend loads. Less than £300 is my budget

Look for a Coach bag, they often gave good sales or an unbranded one from M&S or John Lewis.
What style and could are you looking for?

Questions124 · 25/03/2024 13:41

@springcantcome2soon thank you. I don’t know what style I’m looking for - maybe a day bag such as a tote and an evening bag like a clutch or cross body

@springcantcome2soon thank you so much! They look great

To be honest I don't really see many 'obvious' designer handbags around these days if at all. Everything is a lot more casual and subtle. I'd probably spend the money on clothes/ shoes/hair and beauty instead. But if you are set on a bag, Coach is a pretty good shout as PPs have said.

My thoughts personally.
Most of dkny has massive logos everywhere.

evilharpy · 25/03/2024 13:59

Coach is a good shout. Maybe Kate Spade?

HolidayAtNight · 25/03/2024 14:27

Longchamp's leather bags get a bit ignored, but they're lovely and great quality:

Roseau M Hobo bag Turtledove - Leather | Longchamp GB

Épure S Bucket bag Apricot - Leather | Longchamp GB

MK fakes were so common recently that I'd steer clear unless it was a design I really loved.

I've several DKNY bags, none have prominent logos and they've been hard wearing. They're a standard entry level brand, like coach or Kate spade.

Fishwiife · 25/03/2024 17:03

I have several mk, a Kate spade and several Coach. The best quality one is the mk saffiano- ten years old and still going strong. My Kate spade and coach bags broke just outside the warranty. Kate spade wouldn’t fix it, coach charge £70 a go (the shoulder strap finishing comes off and it frays).

Lifeetc · 25/03/2024 17:12

Neither brand is my taste,
Paula Kirkwood, independent, beautiful, handmade, last you a life time.

Jeannne92 · 25/03/2024 17:13

Personally I do not find MK stylish or attractive.

I haven't seen DKNY since 1998 so thought it had disappeared. However back then I found it tacky.

Buy the bag you want, OP.
