New shoes for work

User236792 · 23/03/2024 20:49

I am seriously in need of a new pair of shoes for work. They need to be comfortable and will be one of the very few pairs of smart/nice shoes I own so would be nice to also be suitable with jeans for the rare occasion I go to a restaurant or drinks in the evening.

I am struggling with much of a heel post-pregnancies but think a 90s style small block heel might be ok. I’m thinking one of these two. Which do you like? Are there others I should consider?

Genevra Chunky Heeled Loafers - GENEVRA / 323 018

Genevra take their cue from the chunky heeled loafers of the 1990's. Sculpted from leather, with classic piping across the toe, Genervra is poised on a chunky block heel and adorned with a chunky gold chain to match. Further lined with supple leath...

Why would you need to struggle with heels at all? They may be more in evidence this year but flat shoes are still the default, and there are countless smart options.

Unless you're wearing four inch high black patent stilettos I honestly doubt that the height of your heels will affect the way your colleagues see you.

(But the Jones the Bootmaker shoes do both seem a little ... flatfooted, aesthetically. Just missing the mark in terms of design.)

Thank you @WhatWillIWear ! I guess I still have relatively dated view of “wear heels they are sliming”…

Do you have any suggestions of a good option for me?

I don't like the loafers at all but it's difficult for me to be objective as I really dislike that style of shoe and very blocky heel. It doesn't matter how fashionable it might be, I'd never wear them.

What would you wear them with? Tailored non jeans trousers? I can't see how you could wear them with jeans other than wide legged ones.

I much prefer the Mary Janes although personally would prefer a lower heel.

Re heels and work, you haven't said what type of work, but office and hospitality these days absolutely no need to wear heels and few people do. In my office there's a small number who wear heels. I personally think they look good on them because they look as if they're being worn because these women just like heels- not because they have to or think they have to.

All my work shoes are flats from Pretty Ballerina ranging from very flat to a 4cm block heel. I know that's not helpful.

Here's a few shoes from Clarks which are 100% suitable for office wear. . If I were looking for a loafer I might consider this (one of the best dressed women in my office wears this type of loafer). No particular attachment to Clarks, just picked them as a high street brand.

I don't know what you do at work but since 2019 I have been wearing smart trainers or ankle boots (flat sandals in summer) to work. Since I got to 50 I have refused to do heels. (well my feet have).

I have some smart lace ups for smart, and some low heel Mary Jane pumps for very smart.

Most days, it's Hush, Next, MV or Russell and Bromley trainers

with... suits, chinos, dresses and jeans. Dark suit silver trainers works nicely for me. Good hunting!

I like second pair- the Mary Janed. Shame size 9s and bunions prevent me from wearing such shoes🙄

Thanks all. Good food for thought here… I won’t rush into anything just yet
