If your skin used to be bad but isn’t anymore, what worked?

I don’t have acne or a serious enough issue for prescription medication, but ongoing breakouts, dry/oily, uneven skin tone, sometimes angry flare ups or blotchy patches, looking a bit meh

If you used to have low grade bad skin, what did you change that actually worked?

Cutting out refined sugar makes a massive difference for me

Tryingtogetitright · 22/03/2024 16:04

I have a basket of clean flannels by the sink. Wash my face morning and evening using creighton hydrolaunic face wash and use a clean flannel each time. Moisturise using no 7. Skin seems a lot better. Think it's the flannels...?

I've always had bad, oily/spotty skin. I had roacutane many years ago, and since then struggled since coming off the pill with oily/spotty hormonal skin again.

I decided to give Paula's Choice 2% BHA Liquid Exfoliant a try, and I'm amazed. It's made a huge difference to my oily skin and spots!

Stopping using foaming facial wash.

Soolantra for rosacea

Coalface soap from lush.
Worked magic on my skin.

BeyondMyWits · 22/03/2024 16:43

Went back to Lux. (Proper soap bar). T zone eczema has gone.

Powderblue1 · 22/03/2024 16:47

Tretinoin and spf 50 daily. Tretinoin is incredible and reversed the signs of ageing for me. I always get complimented on my skin and go makeup free often.

Youmeandacupoftea · 22/03/2024 16:49

I second niacinamide and I’m micro needling 2x a week and I’ve really noticed a reduction in breakouts and improved skin tone since doing it.

Hiyawotcha · 22/03/2024 16:49

47 skin. Has been great for me.

App13 · 22/03/2024 16:50

Cleaning your skin with Rose Water at the end of the day. Stopped any breakouts.

catsnore · 22/03/2024 16:54

Cutting out sugar/alcohol
Hardly ever wearing makeup
Only using tried and tested moisturiser and nothing else (Aveeno for me)
Washing face just in water twice a day
Vitamin supplement
Decent sleep

If I managed to do them all at once all the time my skin would be amazing 😂

SquashPenguin · 22/03/2024 16:55

The Ordinary. Changed my skin completely.

Skeldale · 22/03/2024 16:56

Skin and Me - I thought it would be a gimmick but it's really transformed my skin.

marmaladeandpeanutbutter · 22/03/2024 16:59

A good diet. Water only on face. Light cream (any) if dry at end of winter. Age repairing youthful problems.
Thats all.

endofanera23 · 22/03/2024 17:00

Giving up dairy - completely, i.e. checking the label of every tin of soup, biscuit packet, crisp packet, checking ingredients of all takeaway curries and breads and so on, rather than just switching your milk and cheese type thing. I come out in spots within a day or two if I ever accidentally have some now.

FrenchMustard · 22/03/2024 17:06

La Roche posay effaclar, 3L of water a day and ditching make up wipes in favour of coconut oil to take my make up off worked well for me. Also getting older has improved it…in my 30s now and it’s nowhere near as bad as it was in my 20s.
