Makeup sponges

At the ripe old age of 48, I’ve discovered how much better foundation looks when applied with a makeup sponge rather than my fingers.
I feel a little ridiculous asking this, but what’s the best way to clean the sponges? I’ve been rinsing with soap and water but it doesn’t seem to get them properly clean.
Also, I’ve been using the sponges from my advent calendars but have no idea what brand. Which ones would you recommend?
Thank you!

I have a little net bag and out mine in the washing machine. You can buy from lots of places from Primark to Boots. I like the real techniques ones.

Never thought of the washing machine.

I use hot water and dishwashing liquid to clean them - squeeze the soap liquid through repeatedly and leave to sit in boiling hot water. Then rinse, squeeze out and let dry in direct sun. Seems to get foundation out fairly well, sponge smells nice and gets rid of any bacteria.

I also like the orange real technique ones best.

I use a soap that foams a lot

Bars of soap ! Nikki tutorials mentioned this years ago on their YouTube . The little ones you get free at hotels are the best .

I've also used loads of different types of sponges but you end up finding ones that are perfect for you . Real techniques are great but I found ones on beauty bay for a couple of quid that done the job just as good .

Same. Washing-up liquid cuts through the oiliness of foundation well.
