How old is too old...?

...To have ballyage hair?

I'm 43, I have blonde highlighted hair and I'm wanting to change it at my appointment on Friday (I want to give my hair a break from the bleach) but very unsure what style/colour to have.

I originally considered like an ash brown colour all over, but someone has suggested having a ballyage.

Has anyone gone from bleached blonde hair to something different? What did you do? Any recommendations grateful, thank you 😊

Sorry, can’t help with the technicalities but wouldn’t think too old, anyway you’re a mere youngster yet!
I saw a lady in the supermarket the other week with what I think is referred to as balliage? Anyway it was brown at the top & bright green further down, she must have been mid eighties at least. Good for her I say.

Balayage is common among that age group, along with that silver wave hairstyle, so I wouldn't worry about that.

Workingmytickettoparadise · 20/03/2024 13:27

Making yourself happy is ageless, go for it.

CointreauVersial · 20/03/2024 13:34

You are never too old.

Telomeres · 20/03/2024 13:44

You think 43 might be too old to have your hair dyed?! I'll be dyeing mine likely till I'm dead. I don't really understand this 'too old' shit.

BrassOlive · 20/03/2024 13:49

I don't think you should be limited by age - but even if I did, ballyage has quite a soft, natural look so looks flattering on any age

Jeannne92 · 20/03/2024 13:51

I think everyone from 12 to 100 has balayage nowadays.

No, I obviously do dye my hair so I don't think I'm too old. I too, will probably always dye my hair, always have tbh.
It was more the style, didn't know if I'd be trying too hard, you know?
Just wanted a 2nd, 3rd, 4th opinion 😂

Meh, trying too hard by whose standards? Get whatever you want! I'm currently considering a deep green layer underneath.

MadDogMama · 20/03/2024 15:57

Thanks everyone. I think you have given me the confidence to try it.
Appreciate all your lovely comments 😊

Balayage often looks exactly the same as highlights so if I were you I would take a picture of exactly what you want.

Thanks for the tip, I'll snap some screenshots in advance.

@MadDogMama turns out that for me 43 was 'fuck it' age and now I do whatever the fuck I want.

Might be something in that, I also want to re-pierce my nose 😂

I think the older you get the more you can get away with, no longer care if they think you’re a mad old bat, that’s my philosophy anyway 😂

SwordBilledHummingbird · 20/03/2024 16:54

I'm 43 and have balayage. Mine is very subtle, my hair just goes from dark blonde at the roots to a lighter, golden blonde at the ends. For me, it's the same as what happens to it naturally in the sun, just sped up!

I would definitely take some pictures with you as it sounds like you're thinking of something more dramatic?
