The mini trench like jacket came back in my local M&S in my size, tried it on and it didn’t look right. Tried a similar one on in H&M with the same result! Feel free to share your fashion woes!

A poncho/ Shawl thrown elegantly over my shoulders.
My friend has several...she looks so elegant.
I look like Clint Eastward and just need the cigar and cowboy hat !

Ditto hats.... see above!

Upinthenightagain · 19/03/2024 23:14

Body suits. I don’t have a waist

Tessisme · 19/03/2024 23:21

Skirts. All of them. Every shape. Every length. They just look shit on me. It wasn't always the case, but since I morphed from a pear into an apple (thanks to menopause) I haven't managed to find one to suit me.

DSD9472 · 19/03/2024 23:25

Anything strappy where a bra would show through. Even as a late teen, I never recall being able to go braless.

WoodBurningStov · 19/03/2024 23:25

Dungarees - I look like a children's tv presenter

tangycheesythings · 19/03/2024 23:26

lipstick!

HeartofSaturdayNight · 19/03/2024 23:32

Yup, nodding along to all the things women with big boobs can't wear.

I love those bohemian floaty tops with embroidery and ruching, you know the kind. I look like Hattie Jacques in them.

Also, I cannot wear a scarf thrown over the shoulder. My shoulders are too small.

As previous poster said, I can't wear shorts! I look ridiculous in them. I think its a combo of size, height and shape - my thighs are too big compared to the rest of my legs and the shorts just disappear into my crouch. Awful.

Lookingoutside · 20/03/2024 00:04

Hoodies. In a beachy, slouchy, I’ve been surfing all day way.

I’m an extreme hour glass shape and they look awful on me.

LadyGaGasPokerFace · 20/03/2024 00:06

Colours. I wear black, navy, burgundy, brown, grey and green. I’d love to wear yellow, red, pink.

Elphame · 20/03/2024 00:08

Trousers that are not jeans.

I need a 35" inside leg measurement. Virtually impossible to find. (LTS are a weird shape which doesn't fit me)

marmiteloversunite · 20/03/2024 00:09

Converse make me look like a clown.

Have terrible trouble finding swimming costumes that fit my size 18 tummy and my very flat chest after a double mastectomy! Spend my whole time buying costumes and sending them back. Confused

Linnet · 20/03/2024 00:24

I’m 5ft 2 and busty so most dresses are out as I’m just not the right shape. Wide trousers, nope, high necked tops, nope. Some jackets look a bit weird sometimes too.
i wish designers wouldn’t consider everyone to be tall and stick thin with no boobs.

Whiskeyandkittens · 20/03/2024 00:24

Shorter length tops - I'm an hour glass shape with a high waist and high hips, and short tops cut me in half in a very weird way and make me look all boxy!
I never learn either and keep ordering them in the hope that somehow things have changed and I'll look OK in them....

I currently have a jumper on the way that could go either way as if looks like it COULD be quite short, but the model is taller than me so hoping she's just longer in the body too!

JesusMaryAndJosephAndTheWeeDon · 20/03/2024 00:28

Hats.

I have a massive head and look really stupid in a hat. Any sort, beany, cap, bucket, sun hat, glamorous going to the races style hat. All looks ridiculous.

Gervhill · 20/03/2024 06:10

As a short person but with short torso/long legs and square shaped hips with not much of a waist - any skirt or dress below the knee, I look like a door. High rise anything ends up under my tits. I also have a deformity so prefer not to wear fitted clothes on my top half, it’s a faff.

OrderOfTheKookaburra · 20/03/2024 06:11

Skater style dresses. If I manage to lose the weight, I'm buying gf a dozen!!!

JMAngel1 · 20/03/2024 06:23

I know a higher neckline is more “in” but I just can’t. I have a really short torso and if I don’t elongate my neckline, I just look like a lollipop head on top of legs. I also feel like a high neck accentuates my double chin (which I am thankfully beating into submission with IF and radio frequency and microneedling)

I would love to wear a simple scoop neck jersey body con midi dress - I love that effortless look. But even though I’m only 7 and a half stone, my tummy is dreadful after 2 c sections and a propensity to constipation. So I would like I was 5 months pregnant. Every now and then I buy one and always have to return.

I also can’t wear prints as I have wild curly hair and I look like a mad librarian cat lady with that combination.

Try a fitted wrap tulip style - I’m a slim apple and I find the tie at the side of the waist detracts from my tummy. It’s the only style of skirt I can wear.

JMAngel1 · 20/03/2024 06:29

Hatty65 · 19/03/2024 20:35

Sleeveless shift dresses. I used to be pear shaped - so they were too tight on the hips and bagged on the bust. Now I'm fatly apple shaped and they are even less flattering.

I have friends who look simply elegant in this type of thing and I'm envious.

Agree. Possibly one of the hardest dress shapes to pull off - I’m always really green if I see a lady in a timeless silk shift dress looking completely in proportion. My tummy would be poking through. Ditto bias cut silk/satin dresses - so unforgiving.

Hopingforno2in2024 · 20/03/2024 06:59

Pretty much everything 😂 My boobs ruin most looks being way too big and out of proportion with the rest of me.

AppropriateAdult · 20/03/2024 09:03

Anything in camel/beige etc. They always look classy and stylish on people with the right colouring, but just don't suit my dark hair/fair skin at all.

MrsElsa · 19/03/2024 20:27

Floaty dresses. Anything with ruffles. I want to look ethereal and romantic but just look like a baby elephant

Me too. When I go on holiday I would love to waft around stylishly in lovely long, floaty, ruffley coloured/patterned dresses. I have long red hair and am tall and 'curvy'. In my mind this look should be perfect, and I should look like a Pre-Raphaelite beauty. In reality I look like an aging pantomime dame.

Deathraystare · 20/03/2024 09:26

Practically everything! I thought I was an apple as I have a big tum but noticed in the mirror that although I am very busty, my hips are a bit wider.

I really love pencil skirts but with a large tummy that is not ideal.

Last year when looking for dresses for a cruise, most had splits on one side. The left hand side. I have a swollen left knee so really do not want to emphasise that. Actually both knees are swollen but my left is worst. In any case I do not want to showcase either leg! Backless dresses are a no on due to back fat and cut out midriffs will show off my tummy. I am not so tall at 5ft 4ins so there again there are problems.

I also have to wear (as they say in the adverts) bulky pee pads as thin ones do not work and I have to be careful which trousers to wear as some leggings make me look like I am wearing a cod piece!!!! Shorts are also out due to big bum/tum. I also cannot wear high necks as I hate to feel strangulated!

Also like @MrsElsa I cannot wear flounces etc as I look like a 'bonny' baby!!

Same, I bought a Beige trench coat my Dd said I looked like l "an old school Janitor" ! .Harsh but probably true 😂

  • *@JesusMaryAndJosephAndTheWeeDon Yep. Me too. We had to wear safety gear going around a works building and everyone had to wear one. Mine dangled off my head in a very (not) health and safety way. Like a pimple on my head!
