I find Next brand jeans usually have a large waist relative to their hip size. Good for apples.

M&S used to be the opposite (huge hip size compared to their waist size, terrible for apple shapes), but I haven't shopped there for years, so no idea what they're like now.

I recently did a John Lewis styling appointment because I needed jeans but didn't know where to start with styles and brands.
The stylist was great and offered honest opinions on what suited me and what didn't. Obviously you're stuck with the brands that they have in JL which are not budget friendly. But it might be helpful as they can offer advice and then you can look elsewhere when you know what you're looking for.
