Tell me about your evening attire (at home) / loungewear

Interested to know what / if people wear loungewear at home in the evenings versus pyjamas etc and what feels cosy whilst not feeling too lazy!

I work and have a 3.5 year old who was born in the pandemic so pretty quickly I got used to getting into my pyjamas really early in the evening as there was nothing else to do in lockdown! Nowadays I've graduated onto loungewear (in an attempt to feel less scuzzy and make a tad more effort whilst still feeling chilled out!) I covet some cashmere tracksuit trousers and matching sweater.

I tend to get home from work / nursery pick up, and immediately change into loungewear, my favourite being matching sets with slipper socks. This is at about 6pm. I swap out of my bra into a sleep bra which is so comfy and I can't bear keeping my bra on all evening now if I'm only staying in. There was a time pre-pandemic and pre motherhood where I must have stayed dressed in my normal daytime clothes right up until I went to bed, but it feels like another world away!!

However I'm now finding I've stopped bothering about pyjamas and tend to sleep in an old t-shirt, so I don't wake up very glamorous!

If you have young children or busy family life what is your preference for what you wear around the home in the evenings and to bed (I'm asking those who tend to stay in all evening rather than dress up to go out - I'm not in the phase of life currently!) Do you have nice loungewear, get straight into pjs, or heaven forbid leave your bra on all evening?

Getting changed when I get home from work wouod create far too much washing and I just can’t be bothered. The most I’d do is take my jacket off and pop a cosy jumper on.

Freakinfraser · 14/03/2024 19:47

I work from home, I stay in my clothes all,day from getting dressed to bed time.

i wear what takes my fancy. Today it’s navy leggings, navy long sleeve t shirt and a green vest underneath, yesterday it was a flowery long bias cut skirt and a red long sleeve t shirt. Often it’s a stretch dress. No rules apart from it needs to be comfy, I often wear a vest instead of a bra.

mamaison · 14/03/2024 19:49

Loungewear for me. Quick shower after dinner then I change into a vest and comfy pants under cashmere joggers and a cashmere jumper (not matching).

I take off the cashmere before bed and sleep in the pants and vest (warm house). I have cashmere bed socks too which are lovely but too slippery for general lounging.

I have cotton with cashmere joggers for summer.

I work in leggings:t-shirt so mostly stay in those until shower/bed time. It's not unusual for me to have a shower & wash my hair mid evening then I'll put in PN bottoms & clean t shirt, which I take off for bed.

I shower on an early evening whilst DH is sorting out the baby.

I then get changed into a seamless crop top and joggers, or on a Friday night now we don’t go out every week- I wear a snug cami dress (it’s an Amazon skims dupe), which is super comfy, fine for breastfeeding but feels vaguely sexy. We always have ‘nice dinner’ with candles on a Friday and I don’t want to be sat in my tracksuit bottoms.

I wear leggings and a vest with a chunky long cardigan and then get changed into my uniform when I get to work. When i get home I keep these on until a shower in the evening after which I get into my PJs.

EllaPaella · 14/03/2024 20:06

Trackie bottoms, thick wooly socks, a vest top and warm cardigan

SnapdragonToadflax · 14/03/2024 20:11

I change into pyjamas at bathtime, so I'm comfy for book and bedtime. Mostly wfh so comfy clothes anyway, but I prefer pyjamas in the evening. I take my make up off at some point in the evening and usually shower before bed.

TheChosenTwo · 14/03/2024 20:17

WFH 4 days a week and am usually in comfy clothes/gym wear until I have a bath in the evening, and then swap for clean comfy clothes 😂 joggers or leggings and a tshirt.
on my office day I usually shower when I get home and get back into my usual house comfy clothes.
I’m not in every evening but those evenings I have no plans I’ll be in my comfs.
I sleep naked though and don’t own pyjamas.

LoobyDop · 14/03/2024 20:19

I swap jeans and anything even vaguely tailored like collared shirts or proper trousers for jogging bottoms and hoodies. Tshirts or jumpers stay on, as do socks and underwear. I absolutely cannot stand the sensation of sitting around without a bra on. Makes me feel unclean. I know this is bonkers.

Dacadactyl · 14/03/2024 20:21

Currently in a dressing gown only up top, walking trousers (cos they dry quickly once theyve gone thru thr wash!), socks and slippers.

Its a mighty sexy look!

I change into this sort of "outfit" the minute I know I'm in for the night. My MIL has turned up unannounced a few times and I can tell she's thinking WTF!

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 14/03/2024 20:26

Cosy lounge pants on the bottom (currently velour leopard print ones) with a vest top then sweatshirt or knitwear on top, woolly socks and Birkenstocks. I sleep in a nightshirt so change before bed. In summer I tend to wear leggings and a big tee round the house in the evenings.

henlake7 · 15/03/2024 09:54

My current loungewear is dictated by my lack of heating! So generally I wear undies (crop top bra to sleep in, I dont do free range boobs!), pair of comfy pjs with a pair of thick fleece pjs over the top...then I just ditch the fleece ones to go to bed.
In the summer I mooch around in shorts and the crop top. Although TBH most days I tend to stick to casual stuff anyways (thick lined leggings and sweatshirt or joggers and hoodie).

MotherWol · 15/03/2024 10:04

I don't work from home, and cycle to/from work, so when I get home I change out of my cycling gear and into loungewear - usually comfy joggers and a t-shirt. I tend to wash off my makeup and do my skincare straight after getting in too, because if I leave it 'til bedtime I'm too tired! I prefer having separate work and home clothes, feel like it helps me switch off for the day.

I wear my day clothes until the younger dc are in bed then shower and put on my pyjamas. Our house is cold so I often have an oodie or dressing gown on top too.
I’ve noticed that ds’ girlfriend changes into leggings as soon as they get back if they’ve been out anywhere.

StarlightLady · 15/03/2024 18:10

Unless it’s really cold, l wear a loose fitting dress about the house, often with nothing underneath (shhh!). It’s comfy and means l can go to the door or to the bin and appear respectably dressed.

Grapewrath · 15/03/2024 18:12

Leggings or trackies with an oversize tee and sweatshirt if it’s cold.

Flipper95 · 15/03/2024 20:24

Depends on the season I guess, so in summer I live in loose dresses and keep them on until bedtime. In winter when I'm mainly in jeans / trousers, I can't stand lounging around in them so change when home and done for the day into a matching PJ set (I find this makes me feel and look quite put together!) or if it's cold then PJ trousers and jumper. Nice slippers. I think it looks quite chic still!

Jeez aren't you cold!!!

pizzaHeart · 15/03/2024 20:42

I always change into home clothes first thing, depending on the season it’s joggers or cropped leggings for the bottom half and T-shirt with or without fleece on the top half, socks and slippers. A bit more variety in recent months as I moved a few of my cotton jumpers into home wear. Bra is always on until bedtime.
