Interview outfit advice?

Hi - I’ve been reading other threads on this topic and appreciating the good advice. Hoping to get similar for my own measurements and requirements!

I have an interview for a senior NHS managerial job next week. Haven’t interviewed since 2018. Due to lockdown weight fluctuation I have lots of black trousers and jackets in varying sizes but all a bit worn. A dress and blazer which dates from the last interview and ditto.

Can I justify a new outfit and if so what? Nearly 5’10, 48, dress size 12-14. Slightly over the top of healthy BMI and about a stone over the weight I look good at. Natural scruff bag. Deeply envious of my male counterparts who are making an effort if the generic suit has been dry cleaned and they’ve found a tie.

I’m honestly struggling to understand why you’re questioning whether you are worth the cost of new clothes good enough for an interview after six years.

You’re skilled and professional enough to be interviewing for senior management positions - but all your work clothes are a bit worn?

Forgive me - but it doesn’t sound as if you think of yourself as valuable.

(And why all black?)

You need to get into town and try things on. Of course you need something new - you can't go for a senior post interview in worn clothes! What would that do for your self esteem?

Smart trousers and top (don't have to be black) or a nice small day dress and tights.

Buy the new clothes for it and you'll feel better

Thank you for the support! Much more the ‘natural scruff bag’ aspect than not thinking of myself as worth it. Also, not a hugely smart-dressing sector so worry I’ll look overdone.

outfit shopping it is 😀

It might not be a 'smart-dressing sector' generally but you always want to look well presented for an interview, particularly for a senior role. Hair tidy, nails tidy, shoes polished, smart crease-free clothes and smart bag. You'll look great - good luck!
