Tattoo at age 45

I have an ugly tattoo at the bottom ot my back. It was done in the 90s. its a "tramp stamp" I hate that misogynistic term btw but I'm using it here so you can get what I mean.
I'm thinking about getting it covered with a realistic black and grey floral design but I'm not sure. Am I too old? I don't think I'd consider getting a "new" one now but a cover up seems a bit different because it's hiding something crap. Thoughts please. Thank you

Absolutely not too old. I had a tattoo covered up last year, I'm 46. My DH is older and hasn't finished with his tattoos.
Go for it. Mine is on my back so didn't bother me daily, but it just started to look really old and crap and I started to think that's what other people would think if they were behind me in the summer etc 😀. Now I have a tattoo I really like.

If you can direct me to the legislation on upper age limits for tattoos I’ll look it up for you …

Got my first at 47. There is no age limit.. go for it

I was getting a tattoo done last week and a woman came into book her first, she was easily in her late seventies! Never ever too old.

Not only are you not too old but there are plenty of female tattoo artists about in their 40s too.

You will likely have more options for a black and grey realistic cover up if you have a couple of laser sessions to lighten the old one up first (generally covers ups work best when they are bold with lots of lines to distract the eye, eg traditional old school roses).

How can you be 'too old' for a tattoo?

Itsrainingten · 13/03/2024 17:00

Well obviously I'm not literally too old. I guess I'd have to be actually dead for a tattooist to refuse because of my age 😂
I just wondered if it seems a bit desperate really. Anyway I'm going for a chat with the artist on Friday and will see what she says about my ideas. I don't want anything too big and I know you have to go quite a bit bigger with a cover up so will see.
