Smelly scalp

I don't have dandruff or any scalp issues but my scalp pongs the day after washing, like an old dog. I have dryish curlyish hair and new hairdresser advised me to only shampoo hair twice a week. Hair itself looks great but not keen on stinky hound smell.

Been like this for years before and after menopause. Not a particularly sweaty person and make sure hair is dried after washing, use clean pillowcases etc

Anyone else had this and managed to solve it? Tried T gel and Head & Shoulder but didnt do anything. Thanks

Try ketoconazole shampoo - it deals with fungal infections, which this could be? The box gives instructions on how to use, but you need to leave it lathered on the skin for a few minutes essentially.

Selsun Shampoo - DS uses it for huge skin flakes but it is anti fungal as well.
Nizoral also anti-fungal as well.

If it's not fungal could be bacterial - so tea tree oil shampoos are thought to be antibacterial as well as anti fungal.

Try an apple cider vinegar rinse after washing. You don’t rinse your hair after the diluted vinegar rinse so there is a slight vinegar smell until the hair dries.

Also, coconut oil masks. Try doing it weekly.

Umberto Giannini Scalp Serum. I know you don’t have dandruff, but it’s lovely stuff and smells gorgeous so might be worth a go!

bit of a game changer here but I have now found that for me sulphate free shamppo contributes to a pongy scalp. I have used cheap as chips Alberto Balsam tea tree oil shampoo- 90p- and this has sorted the pong almost instantly. Scalp fab after 3/4 days and no whiff

Thats good to know @Gatekeeper , I am also plagued with a stinky scalp (also itchy), I have tried so many shampoos so will give that one a shot

For me, the cause of the smell was that they had changed the formula of Head & Shoulders, which I wasn’t aware of. They removed the main ingredient, zinc pyrithione. I suffered for three years, trying everything possible, until I finally discovered that it had been removed. I then purchased Head & Shoulders from abroad, where the ingredient is still included, and the problem disappeared.
