LED facial yesterday - so worried it's damaged my eyes!

Hi all,

I finally went for a facial yesterday after a very long time - a much needed break from parenting two small children, and much needed now that I'm 42 with a lot of signs of ageing.

I have never tried any kind of fancy add-ons like micro currents, peels, etc, so when the facialist suggested LED treatment I was keen. Just before she turned it on she warned me it would be very bright even with my eyes closed and covered, however nothing could have prepared me for how bright it was. For some reason I lay there for four minutes until I finally asked her to turn it off, half a minute early. She kept assuring me it was safe, and that there was no evidence it causes eye damage.

However - I feel like my vision has been affected, there is just a kind of 'brightness' to everything and vision in the dark is a bit weird. I am so upset - I am an artist, and I would never do anything to compromise my (already a bit average) vision. A facial treatment was never something I expected to be dangerous.

Has anyone experienced this? I am hoping for reassurance! I have suffered severe health anxiety in the past which led to a breakdown so I work hard to keep my worrying to a minimum but this is challenging me.

How did they cover your eyes?

There's a facial I have regularly that also has 6 mins of LED at the end which I really struggle to tolerate (so no longer do) - the two occasions I stuck it out for there wasn't any long term affect on my eyes. So hopefully you'll be fine.

How did they cover your eyes?

With the tiniest little plastic eye cover things and a cotton pad?

Thanks @Hepherlous - it's awful isn't it. Never again. That's good you say you had no long-term damage - just wondered if you noticed short term effects afterwards?

Ah ok yes I've had that and haven't noticed any effect on my eyes afterwards sorry. It is very bright though - so strange when you probably had your eyes shut and covered. Hope it gets better soon, I'd contact the place and let them know .

Everything looked brighter for a while but my eyesight was back to normal within a few hours.

Gos I don't know but I have used a red light led mask for years daily with no eye protection and all is good with my eyesight. I actually watch YT videos whilst using it. Please don't worry.

Thanks @JMAngel1 . I wonder if it is the same strength machine as the thing I had done? The light was basically blindingly white light through my eyelids for four minutes - I can’t imagine having had my eyes open through it?
