How long do you take to get ready?

How long do you take to get ready in the morning? Do you wash your hair the night before or in the morning? I feel like I new routine, I make no time for myself in the mornings and I end up making no effort with my appearance like I use to. Every one else seems to look like they have put thought into their outfit or hair, I just don’t seem to have the time or even the get up and go to do it?

I don’t have kids to get ready which probably makes things easier for me, but my routine is down to a fine art! I am absolutely crap in the morning, so pick out an outfit the night before and hang it in the bathroom, right down to underwear/socks etc. The actual morning looks like this on a work day:

7.07 - alarm goes. Depending on if DP is here - he works away a lot - I might have to sort the cat her breakfast and let her out. Open all the curtains. If he’s home he’s up before me and has done the cat and usually made me tea, so straight in the shower
7.15ish - shower/wash hair
7.25ish - skincare, makeup
7.40ish - get dressed, blow-dry hair, make another cup of tea
7.50ish - put porridge in microwave, straighten hair while that’s going, put shoes on, eat porridge, drink tea, check emails
8.05ish - brush teeth, put lipstick on, sort coat and work bag, get the cat in if she’s still out
8.15ish - out the door

If I didn’t look out clothes the night before it would be much more of a faff, or I would be going to work in my pjs, so that would be my top tip.

It usually takes me about an hour to get ready. Faster if I don't wash my hair (I only wash my hair twice a week otherwise it goes really dry regardless of what I use). And faster again if I've already picked out what I'm going to wear but I rarely do that - I get up naturally very early anyway so I have the time available to me to do that in the morning.

My typical routine involves me washing my face and doing face skincare, then I shower or take a bath while waiting for face moisturiser to do it's thing. Followed by makeup, teeth cleaning, and getting dressed. I brush/ style hair then put on some lipstick and. I'm done and set for the day.
This is all very early still so I eat breakfast later

When I had to get a child ready too, I used to get about half hour earlier than I do now, to give myself more time, but as I say, I'm up early anyway.

15/20 minutes.
Bath in the evening & think about clothes.
Get up - wash & brush hair
check kids are up
get dressed
cup up of tea
5 min warning for dcs
lenses in
quick hairspray/adjust
lose keys
find keys
leave
2 mins make up in car park

About half an hour, but I do it in 3 sections and section one normally takes longer than it needs to because I browse the newspaper headlines at the same time.
1 brush teeth, wash face, put make up on
2 get dressed
3 run straighteners through hair (wash the night before, air dry - only every other day, not daily)

School/work days I get up at 7.15 and go straight in the shower where I wash my face and hair, then brush teeth while wrapped in the towel so I'm dry. I alternate skin care and getting dressed - hyaluronic acid/pants/vitamin c/socks/moisturiser/bra then I finish getting dressed (outfit laid out night before) and get the dc up and make their breakfast. While they're eating I do primer and a bit of foundation, (day to day I only use a little to give my skin a bit of a glow). I do brows and lashes with clear mascara and use concealer to brighten under eyes. Blow dry my hair then final step is a touch of bronzer across my forehead and round my cheeks and neck, otherwise I look really washed out on teams.

Then it's 10 minutes to get dc washed and dressed and out the door!

I have breakfast later which saves some time!

I’m surprised at the daily hair washing being so common. My hair is long though and I sleep in heatless curlers, so it’s ready to go.

takes me very little time to get ready, maybe 20 mins, quick shower, brush teeth, make up on, get dressed, brush hair out. Job done.

JackOrMeryl · 09/03/2024 07:20

@Lampslights what heatless curlers do you use please?

ButterflyTable · 09/03/2024 07:21

I don’t do anything - well I brush teeth was face, put on some sunscreen and get dressed. I rarely wear make up unless I have Teams calls. I generally wear my hair up and wash it three times a week after gym. I shower every evening before bed.

Half an hour to 40 minutes including shower.
Twenty minutes if I have showered earlier in the day.
An hour and a half if going out somewhere nice.

CharlotteSometimes1 · 09/03/2024 07:38

6.30 get up, drink a coffee, get workout clothes on and go to gym
8.00 back from gym, coffee, Instagram and skincare
8.40 walk dog, still in gym stuff probably throw on a warm jumper & coat, wellies.
9.40 back from walk, super quick shower avoiding hair and face, brush teeth and use the 2 mins to go into wardrobe to select outfit.
9.50 make up, brush hair, possible quick go over with dyson curl thing

In the evening I always have a bath, wash hair every other day and leave it to air dry, it’s very thick and would take ages in the morning. Cleanse face in the bath.

skincare gradually over the evening, nighttime skincare (Tret, moisturiser, skin oil) lives in the coffee table drawer.

I work from home, empty nest.

Loafbeginsat60 · 09/03/2024 08:44

Up about 6.15-6.20 and run on treadmill

Shower and skincare (I wash hair every other night before bed when I have my night time shower)

Get kids up and make breakfasts / packed lunches. I only have tea and eat around 10.30 at work.
Put dinner in slow cooker or take meat out to defrost
Hang up wet washing from night before

Get dressed and do make up

Curl or straighten hair or put it up on day 2

Feed chickens, goats (I wish I could do this before shower but they are still in bed)

Put dogs out (dh walks and feeds them while I am running)

Grab everything we need and hurry everyone our the food!

7.50/8.00 leave for work.

I am so productive in the mornings - if I did most of my chores in the evening I could stay in bed longer but I always leave things to the last minute 🙄

henlake7 · 09/03/2024 08:57

Takes me about 15 mins (no kids and work part time nights so Im lucky to be able to get up when I want!).

Generally up 7ish.
wash face, skincare, primer
brush teeth
do make up (BB cream, concealer, powder, eyeshadow/liner, bronzer, blush and lippie)...Im pretty haphazard tho coz my eyesight is terrible and I cant really see what Im doing!LOL
chuck on clothes (all sorted night before).
walk dogs (3 very elderly dogs who have potentially already peed on the floor).
feed dogs.
breakfast and coffee.

I have a shower the night before and dont need to wash my hair more then twice a week usually.
