Sorry, absolutely no idea. I maybe thought mermaid but after Googling 'cosmic ocean' I haven't a clue.

According to Wikipedia it's a mythological motif for watery chaos before the creation of the Earth and appears in several ancient cultures. How the heck are you supposed to apply that to a dress code??

Although it's also part of a game called Spelunky 2.

Eager to hear other posters' ideas!

How much do you want to spend?

How creative are you?

Do you want a dress you could wear to other functions in the future, so with just a nod to the Cosmic Ocean theme, such as with accessories?

Carry a trident 🔱 and leak water as you walk.

merrymelodies · 08/03/2024 17:44

You could go as an amoeba or hydra...

Jeannne92 · 08/03/2024 17:50

I'd just wear a ball dress, preferably with some shade of blue on it, and then some sort of mermaidy accessory. The dress code is formal, the theme will be the décor.

Jeannne92 · 08/03/2024 17:51

Or you could do slightly mermaidy make-up if you know how to (metallic scale pattern on eyelids) ?

Or à 'cosmic' accessory like earrings / a necklace shaped like the moon.

I'm thinking:
Swirly patterns
Floaty, gauzy or satiny fabrics
Blues / greens / purples / indigo /silver
Pearls
