In a similar place - I have lots of clothes but nothing to wear.

I have come to realise that I buy clothes based on an imaginary life, not the actual day to day life I have. So while I have some lovely things - I will never have the right opportunity to wear them.

So I would first:
Really really think about what you want to actually wear today/tomorrow.
Go through your current wardrobe and pull out an outfit/outfits based on that.
Wear and see what you think feel - did it work? if yes - put it to one side, if not - put the part that didn't work into the "get rid" pile

Start to build a subset wardrobe - take pictures of the outfits that you like and feel good in.

Obviously at some point you need to have a proper clear out and get rid of the clothes that don't work - but I think trying to extract the good bits from what you currently have is the best first thing to do to avoid just buying more stuff.

@Chocolateteabag yes I think this is so true
I spend days clearing out stuff or with builders or at the yard I need a uniform.
Ive sorted out all my rubbish today that I won’t wear I’ve bought 2 x pair of coated jeans a black cashmere sweater oversized a baseball hat small starts x
buying for an imaginary life that’s me lol

I’ve started building a capsule wardrobe too but need and ENORMOUS clear out! I have my main wardrobe which has the non day to day stuff in but I’ve recently bought a nice small clothes rail which has my ‘capsule’ stuff on - three pairs of bottoms, two tops, two jumpers and everything goes with everything else on there. Bottoms consist of blue jeans, smartish black trousers and leggings. Tops are primark loose fit T-shirts in black and sand, jumpers are sweatshirt and nicer stripey jumper for smarter use. I love the system and love not having to think about what I need to wear every day!

I am in the same place but with a different cause - I don’t buy anything. I am not drowning in clothes, I have a very sparse wardrobe but not in a cool, capsule, minimal way. In a “I am too overwhelmed to buy things” way. I literally have one or two smart options for work or for a night out, and then random slobby workout / casual weekend clothes and that is it.

I feel like everything I buy misses the spot so I’ve given up trying for the most part.

I have just ordered the following:

slim (not skinny) mid to dark wash jeans
wide leg linen mix formal trouser - black/slate
Black long length slim tshirt
black roll neck/turtle neck slim fit jersey (not thick so fine for warmer days and can be layered under knitwear)
cream maxi denim skirt can be dressed up or down
black cargo pant (casual)
dark grey formal pleated wide leg trouser

I want to add to this mix
white, khaki and breton striped T-shirts

premium quality boxy sweater / hoody
Navy linen mix wide leg trouser
non shiny bomber jacket
heavy linen black and white shirts (suitable to be styled over racer vests and wide trousers for offer not beach cover up vibes/)

I don’t really “do” colour. I like colour but not so much in clothes weirdly - feels too dress up for me. I am a minimalist at heart!
