What’s happening with jeans???

I’m trying to rebuild a capsule wardrobe following the pandemic & pregnancy. Can fit in jeans comfortably again but am so confused about what is stylish at the moment. I don’t want to look like a teenager but also not completely out of touch. Can I wear high waisted straight leg mid blue jeans? I just think they will last longer as a wardrobe staple than if I go for a wide leg (how long will they be popular?). Something I could wear to work with a blazer but also at the weekend. I already have a pair of cropped black barrel leg jeans I still fit in & love but they’re far too casual for work. I’m trying to go for ‘classic /French chic’ kind of style for a capsule wardrobe so that hopefully I can invest in a few good pieces & wear for years. I’m buying most things second hand but I always think jeans are worth buying new.

I was thinking these:

I have these, I think I'm just going to buy them in a few different colours as they are the only ones I've tried that I like.

I love New look Tori! They're a bit neater than most other mom styles and much more flattering on the arse.

AntonFeckoff · 10/03/2024 11:41

I love those Sezane jeans. I like how they're fitted around the bum (as confirmed by the closeups Grin) which a lot of straight legs don't seem to be. Sadly well above my budget.

Takentomybed · 10/03/2024 11:54

I'm finding all jeans that I try at the moment are too high waisted apart from my river island skinny jeans which I don't really want to wear.
I got some straight leg jeans from tesco which are good in the leg but again feel like there is too much material around the stomach/ waist, so they don't always look flattering. I know I'm not that tall, 5ft 3, but I never used to have this problem!

AntonFeckoff · 10/03/2024 12:09

Where are high waisted jeans supposed to come up to? I got some H&M skinny high jeans (which are really nice) but they come up to about 1.5” below my navel which doesn’t feel particularly high. I like to feel tucked in and secure!

High-waisted sits...

On your waist!

Low-rise hip, mid-rise, between the two.

AntonFeckoff · 10/03/2024 12:27

Ah well these definitely don’t sit on my waist, annoyingly. More of a mid-rise.

Wishiwasathome · 10/03/2024 12:50

I’m still wearing my skinny and straight cut jeans. Can’t quite tear myself away from them.

but I did recently invest in some wide leg jeans from https://www.goodamerican.com/en-gb/collections/wide-leg-jeans

they are amazing. High waisted, fit really well around the top - belly/bum and thighs, then wide from there. Couldn’t bring myself to submit to a drop/loose crotch.

They are on the expensive side, but the jeans I already have from there last forever and even black jeans have held colour and not faded after many washes.

I’m tall and may of their jeans start at a 33” inside leg, but they do a petite selection too so most people would find something to fit.

I'm in a jeans dilemma currently, size 20, typical apple shape - big tummy, slim thighs etc. I usually wear skinny jeans, as my legs look nice in them, but caught a view of myself yesterday and realised it really isn't a good look!

So I'm on the hunt for something more flattering.

A pic of my current look for reference

I'm taller, so I always feel like jeans shrunk or just aren't long enough when they look like this on me. And I feel they make my feet look bigger than they already are. Just don't like the look.

Isometimeswonder · 10/03/2024 16:43

There's a big difference imo between wide leg and bootcut.
I prefer wide leg trousers but bootcut jeans.

itsannie86 · 10/03/2024 17:19

Levi's 501, the Sezane Brut Sexy are also really good!

henlake7 · 10/03/2024 17:31

I'll happily wear anything from skinny to massive oversized jeans.....except mom jeans. I just dont get them! They just look like straight legged jeans that are too short on the ankle. I def feel like Im missing something there.

Fab arent they, I love mine and I think I'm just going to buy some more in different colours as haven't found any others that I like anywhere else!

Theresit · 10/03/2024 18:47

Lily jeans from M&S are my staple. I have them in black, regular denim and dark denim. High waisted and a nice shape to the leg

bouncydog · 10/03/2024 19:01

High waisted jeans are a nightmare for me as I am short waisted, but long legs! In my 60’s I wear Levi’s as you can get size 9’s and wear either slim or straight legged. 512’s are my favourite which are slightly stretchy so fit well around legs and hips.

Ah I'm glad you've posted about Good American! I have a million pairs of Diesel Skinnies and I love them but have been look at GA for a while!

I like cropped mom type jeans. I wear with hi-tops in winter and can switch to trainers / sandals in summer. I’m 51 and size 10.

I also have some subtle barrel”eggs with turn up and paper back waist I bought from Matalan (of all places). They’re really comfortable and also work with hi-tops / trainers / sandals.

I used to wear bootcut or flares years ago but it tended to be with a bit of heel. I’ve no intention of going back to wearing any heels!

I’d be interested to see which flared or bootcut jeans people are wearing with flats.

I wear bootcut jeans with flats. As long as the jeans aren't dragging on the ground they are fine. I've been wearing them for years, and have never worn heels.

Also in my 60s with a short waist and long legs, and I wear Levis as well, but bootcut/flares.

Crumpleton · 10/03/2024 21:36

I'm in my 60's, short, dumpy but still wear jeans.
I've tried many brands but always come back to Bonmarché Sara jeans.

There are different styles, straight, skinny, boot cut in various fits and leg lengths.

VitoCorleoneOfMNMafia · 10/03/2024 21:45

Wear whatever cut of jeans suits your body.

I like the ones you linked (although the pictures are pretty hilarious - over 5 close up pictures of the models' bums 😂)

I think I’m just hoping they will magically make my bum look like a sexy french model 😂

I'd have to be surgically parted from my skinny jeans because they're the only style I like, the only style that suit me and I think all the rest are hideous! I also have an abnormally short torso and so high waisted or even mid rise in some make me look like Mr Fredriksen from Up.

what brands do tou buy @FML83 ? My friends are convinced I’m making this up till I try on jeans in their presence!! Pants in general are a problem.
