I need really basic advice about my nails.

Hi, it has occured to me that my nails are in a terrible state (see pics). No one has ever really told me how to look after my nails.
I have never liked the shape of them or my fingers, so have always just neglected them a bit too.
I work in a role where policy dictates short nails and no nail varnish, but my hands aren't exposed to harsh chemicals or hand washing every 5 mins. I concede my hands are dry. I pick a bit at my nails when anxious, but don't bite them.

Would feel embarrassed going for a manicure and as per work policy it feels a bit pointless. Plus I think my nails look ridiculous with anything other than clear polish due to the short/stubby nature of them!

I just want them to look a bit better...could I be deficient in something? I sporadically take multivitamins and vit D.
Any recommendations for what to do/use would be gratefully received!

They really aren't too bad, but a good hand cream and cuticle oil will really help. Tropic do a great little hand and nail care set.
