Help - what sort of thing do I wear?

I will be indoors for some of the time but there is quite a walk from the coach to the area where we are. I have lots of summery, floaty dresses but they will be too cold. I have a black blazer, a beige trenchcoat and umpteen pairs of black boots. I don't have a wool coat unfortunately (just a Barbour duvet coat and an All Saints leather jacket!

I do have a pair of flowy navy trousers. They are 15 year old but they are Jaeger. My other trousers are skinny black mango ones.

What is the event?

TakeOnFlea · 06/03/2024 19:48

Anything you've described apart from the dresses. Skinny black jeans, nice jumper, warm smart coat, flat black boots

OggyBunsen · 06/03/2024 19:51

Floaty dresses are defintely not very Cheltenham. It's pretty parky here at the moment, so trousers a good choice. Skinny jeans as PP said would work well. Beige trenchcoat probably edges the Barbour duvet - but wear something warm underneath - turtle neck maybe? Knee high boots if you've got any.

Cheltenham - as in the races.

Dress for warmth it’s bloomin freezing.

I’ve been several times. The key is wearing a good coat and nice hat. In my experience what’s underneath doesn’t get seen that much. I tend to wear black or navy skinny trousers or jeans tucked in to knee-high boots. Then a black / navy / cream / tan / grey cashmere jumper / polo neck. Then a long overcoat, that’s what I change up each year. I’ve worn an olive green one, light grey / tweedy one and a burgundy one, then get a fedora style wool / felt hat. They don’t need to be expensive. If you don’t want to buy anything new, I would wear black underneath, black boots, your trench coat, with a nice scarf and matching hat.

It’s freezing most years and I wouldn’t go for heels that are too high as your standing (and drinking!!) most of the day.

I did wonder if it was that but there is plenty more to Cheltenham than just the races!!

PegasusReturns · 06/03/2024 20:12

Hospitality or stands?

If the latter, dress for warmth and standing: flat boots and your trench will work but you might want some layers underneath (padded gilet etc). You won’t take your coat off if you’re outside all day.

A hat (trilby style) is handy if it’s damp and a silk style scarf would go well with the trench and be very much in keeping.

Next week there isn't really 🤣

Hospitality. The one that’s like a pub, Horse & Groom. Apparently we will be inside a lot and I tend to get warm indoors.

Skinny jeans would be frowned on by the people I will be with & the ones that be got are a size too big at the moment.

It sounds like I just wear my normal work clothes then. I’ve got black trousers, a cream mango very soft polo neck jumper & my trenchcoat (it’s new from Ted Bsjer I bought it 6 weeks ago).

The city I live in has no shops except Marks & Spencer, charity shops, TK Max & pound shops.

i tried to look for a cashmere jumper last weekend on a trip to Manchester but they either swamped me or didn’t have my size in stock.

im 5ft 3, small shoulders, curvy bust and a size 12.

I’ve been browsing Vinted. Managed to put together an outfit for a great price, I just hope all arrives in time. Pleased I stumbled upon this thread as I was planning on wearing a summer dress with kitten heels…

I'm going to Cheshire Oaks on Sunday. I might see if I can pick up something like a silk scarf. Totally frivolous for me but I think it will be nice,

I NEED (want) a pair of knee high boots I think. I have a pair but they are Clarks and are goodness knows how many years old. All my nice boots are ankle or calf length.
