Do you still use a wallet?

I haven’t used a proper wallet in years, I just carry a tiny card holder for debit card + a couple of supermarket cards and pay pretty much everywhere with my phone these days.
Curious to know if people still use a traditional wallet (with the zip and compartments etc) these days. If you do, what is your age? When I go shopping I notice it’s mainly “mature” people using one.
I do miss it but just don’t see the point anymore!

do People who use phone only not carry their drivers licence? I’m faaaar too old to be IDd but still feel I ought to carry it.

I have a photo of it on my phone in case I get stopped (and to get into the tip!) and I think worse case if you don't have it on you you have to present it within 7 days at a police station.

I have a mini wallet that houses some loyalty/membership cards and a zippy bit for coins, that I originally bought for travelling overseas. My big wallet (with drivers licence, stamps, donor card, lesser used loyalty cards etc) hasn't left the house for months. In practice though, I generally don't take either in the UK and just use my phone. I'm late 40s.

Saying only men have wallets is like saying only men wear trousers.

I'm a 50 something woman and I've used a wallet since my teens. I've just bought a lovely new leather one as my old fabric one was falling apart. I like one with lots of pockets.

I also have a leather coin purse for loose change which also has zipped pockets for my many loyalty cards as that's what burst my old wallet.

Never owned a wallet but do have a purse yes

I'm a total convert to phone payments and now rarely take my purse out with me since my cards and stuff like nectar/clubcard are all on my phone. Only time I take my physical card is London as I've got stuck before where the tube machine wouldn't read my phone so I couldn't get out!

I bought a nice Kipling one last year. I have my bank cards, driving license etc in it. I’d never really have much cash on me. I bought this one because my phone fits in it. So sometimes that’s all I need if I don’t want to bring a bag.

This thread has made me realise I really ought to see if I can put more stuff on my phone. Having said that, it's quite an old Android, and I don't even know if it supports contactless payment, so I'd be falling at the first hurdle.

TheChosenTwo · 07/03/2024 14:28

@henlake7 it’s liberating! I don’t need anything with me day to day, other than my phone which is usually in a pocket and a key (also pocket but mostly there’s someone in or next door have a spare and they’re always in! So mostly on my office day I don’t even need to bother with keys), it’s great just leaving the house with nothing!
I just don't need anything.

This dinasaur doesn't use a mobile phone except for an emergency one in the car. I have a few nice wallet/purses bought from TK Max over the years and use one now which contain all my shop cards, bank cards and bus pass (shows my age). I pay by card for my shopping unless it is a couple of pounds.
It also has about £50 in notes to pay window cleaner etc and about £10 in cash and will top up as needed.

A wallet is what a man uses

Not necessarily.

Verv · 07/03/2024 16:31

I use a card holder most of the time as I dont use cash as I can just stick it in my back pocket.
I do have a wallet though and use it sometimes, particularly if im taking a bag out with me.
Ive got the apps etc to make phone payments but always seem to forget about them and reach for card.

Chipsahoy · 07/03/2024 16:32

I stopped carrying a handbag. Unless have a cold so need tissues or on a period. I just take a purse which is long so can slot in my phone. I’d rather just take a slim wallet attached to phone but as the makers of women’s clothes still don’t seem to think we need pockets, a wallet to protect phone is necessary.

BarbaricPeach · 07/03/2024 17:17

I’m 34 and I have a card holder which holds my cards (obviously) and has small sections for coins and notes. I rarely carry more than £3 in coins or £20 in notes.

I do have a full purse where I keep extra things that I don't regularly leave the house with. So larger amounts of cash, cards I don't use regularly, less used loyalty cards etc. It also has stamps in it. But it stays at home as it doesn't really fit in my pocket or main bags.

LaWench · 07/03/2024 17:22

I have a purse but very rarely use it.
