Nipple Piercing

Ok, how painful is it? I'm really toying with the idea of getting it done! May whimp out and use numbing cream. How is the healing process?

WhamBamThankU · 05/03/2024 18:31

It's a very sharp, hot feeling for a few seconds, then it just throbs a little bit. I put a large dressing over it at night so I didn't catch it.

BeautifulBirds · 05/03/2024 18:56

Mine never really healed, would close up within hours of removal.
Also, when it came to breastfeeding I think the ducts were damaged and baby wouldn't feed from that side.

VerityUnreasonble · 05/03/2024 20:28

I've had mine done (twice - took them out when I was pregnant then had them redone). It is painful but only very briefly, they are an absolute bitch to heal though, the second time I don't think they ever fully healed and I had them for 10 years, tried plastic bars / various metals but they were never 100%, also once ended up at breast clinic with a cyst that was probably caused by infection that got in via piercing. Hurts a fair bit if you accidentally catch them but didn't happen often.

That said! I did have them done for 15 years so I obviously liked them. I took them out after the cyst thing and they healed up quickly and cleanly.

Probably won't bother with a third try.

NailsHairNipsHeels · 06/03/2024 20:33

I must've been very lucky. Ive had mine done twice (took them out the first time after 10 years as I thought I was too old for them 🤷🏻‍♀️)
Getting the redone was pretty stingy but over very quickly. It's a sharp pain that dulls quickly
I sleep on my front and never had an issue from day one sleeping.
I forget they're there and never have any problems with them. I just kept them clean with saline solution when first done and a good wash in the shower. Never any issues/pain.

littleburn · 06/03/2024 21:59

I had mine done (both sides) post-baby. It hurts in the moment and stings a bit after but not too bad. Like some of the other posters, I never felt they fully healed and would tense up if my partner went anywhere near them. Certainly didn't enhance my sex life! So after two years I took the bars out and I swear they were healed up within a week.

I’m watching thread with interest as l would love to have mine done but l don’t think l would ever have the courage. L would be concerned that “the bounce” (l’m a 36F cup) would hinder the healing process.

ln addition, l’ve had an attempted naval piercing fail twice; on both occasions the body rejected it.

But @NailsHairNipsHeels l don’t think you are ever to old. Good for you on your round 2!

NailsHairNipsHeels · 07/03/2024 22:35

@StarlightLady I was only 35 😂 think I had a midlife crisis I had them redone 18months ago and definitely the best decision
I'm 32GG and honestly didn't have any issue with the healing process at all. I was big into running when I had them redone and even that didn't cause any issues healing

Cornishbelle · 08/03/2024 11:41

I am currently sat in an m and s cafe surrounded by the older generation after having both mine pierced half an hour ago!

Not going to lie it hurt but it was over quite quickly first pain for needle and then the jewellery. About two seconds of pain per boob?! They feel odd and a bit sore but that's I'm sure to be expected.

I'm mid 40s and only ever had my ears pierced before- if you want to, go for it!

I'm a 34H and this concerns me too! I think this is what's putting me off

I'm a 34K and had no issues healing
They can't have been too painful as I had one done at 17 and went back to have the other done a month later!

StarlightLady · 10/03/2024 07:06

Genuine question: Would those who have pierced nipples recommend having them done singly rather than both at the same time?

JerkintheMerkin · 10/03/2024 07:42

Get them done at the same time. Any sort of piercing will hurt for a bit. You wouldn't go and get your ears pierced separately would you?

cuckyplunt · 10/03/2024 07:43

Genuinely.. why?

This was my experience too. I had to remove mine for an MRI scan about 5 years after having it done and couldn’t get it back in immediately afterwards…it’s never bothered me to not have it

cakebytheoceon · 16/03/2024 10:05

I had both mine done nearly a year ago at 31. One I'd say is more or less heeled but I knocked the other about 3 months ago and it's like going through the heeling process all over again. I had children before having them done If relevant and don't plan on any more babies so can't comment on the breast feeding side of things.
I Personally found it insanely painful having them done, but I'm glad I had the second one straight after or I probably would never have gone back for the other 😂
Despite the pain and long heeling process I would recommend it if you really want to! I love mine x
Good luck!

One year after I started this thread (previously a closed account when I tried a mn detox) I finally got one done today!!

It was ok! I was so anxious but the piercer was brilliant! Literally nipped for a second! Tender now obviously

Congrtats! I’ve had one done, which l think looks OK solo. The second? Maybe, maybe not. I’ll see how it goes.

WorkRelatedName · 06/03/2025 19:13

@StarlightLady I wasn't brave to get them both done in one sitting, plus I still leak milk (3 years PP...!! And being investigated by gp), so will get it done when the milk dries up.

I'll defo go back to the same piercer though as she was brilliant!

Please pop back in a few moths time and let me know how you get on. I’ll try and do likewise. Or if PMs are restored in the future feel free to PM me about progress.

MrsBtobe2020 · 07/03/2025 15:36

Painful to have done but very short lived. Take a deep breath... By far the easiest healing piercing I've had. I found my cartilage so much worse. Caught it once in 18 months, slight pain for a day or two. I love mine. I was so glad I took the plunge!

WorkRelatedName · 10/03/2025 22:07

Only tender for a couple of days! Feels fine now, but not touching it unless it's cleaning it. Wanting the other one done now haha!

Weareoutofwine · 10/03/2025 23:06

I'm thinking of having mine pierced too. Slightly personal question for those with a nipple piercing - does it affect sensitivity during sex? I'd hate to loose any sensation in that area. And on the healing process - how long do you have to ' not touch'!?

Cornishbelle · 14/03/2025 21:09

Once they had healed a good while sensation was even better for me but I think or can be very individual- I waited a good 3 months before too much handling!

WorkRelatedName · 18/03/2025 20:31

Been a couple of weeks now and it’s absolutely fine! Healing has been pain free and no problems either! Still cleaning it morning and night but no more crusting! Already wanting my other one done haha! Will wait until after my summer holiday!

WorkRelatedName · 09/05/2025 15:30

Thought I’d come back and update since it’s been a couple of months now. I forget it’s there now haha! Healed very well and survived the roughness of Florida rollercoasters recently lol! Decided against having the other one done for now as may need surgery to have my milk ducts removed on my non pierced side. Anyone doubting getting it done, do it!
