Shoes you wear with dresses?

Inspired by the nobody wears heels to work thread, does anyone want to share their favourite shoes to wear professionally with a dress?

Struggling as ballet bumps have no support, broges/loafers are too chunky under dresses and trainers too casual. It's like there's an entire shoe department, I don't know about somewhere.

I work in a corporate environment and I wear heels with dresses. Most women do. Trainers would not go down well at all (on men or women). Outside work, I wear wedges or, if it's a dress above the knee, I may opt for Converse/Superga. I never bought into the white trainer with dresses fashion - I'm obviously not fashionable/trendy!

Hi @TurquoiseOpal
You've posted part way through someone else's thread . You will need to start your own thread in Property or Chat.

I am the same re what footwear to wear with dresses in Winter anyway. Nothing ever looks right, and it's either too cold or too wet to get my legs out. I am not a fan of ankle boots with dresses - on me anyway- so my solution is to ditch dresses altogether in Winter as much as I can and stick to good quality, well cut trousers for going out, and dress down ones for other occasions (meaning leggings and jeans), as I don't need anything special otherwise.

Quizine · 05/03/2024 17:00

Oh and it's mostly Tom type espadrilles and other flats of all kinds in Summer. I don't like my toes/feet so they are out of sight as much as possible! It is a lot easier to wear dresses in Summer I think.

Picoloangel · 05/03/2024 17:45

I wear brogues or similar smart lace ups for work with skirts and dresses.

Itsanothermanicmonday · 05/03/2024 17:53

I wear boots in winter with a casual dress or avoid wearing a dress as unsure about footwear. I am tall and need comfort and arch support rather than high heels.

In summer its normally flatish comfortable sandals with some arch support or some low wedge sandals. But I am late 50’s with very chunky calves so not on trend. I also didn’t get on board with the floral dress, denim jacket and white trainers brigade.

I could do with advice for what to wear on my feet with a knee length dress in April (before the weather properly warms up) and bare legs.

LizzieBennetsBonnet · 05/03/2024 18:34

I have these that I wear with black tights and a dress/ skirt in winter and another pair in a beige colour that I wear in the summer. https://www.hotter.com/shake-ii-shoes-black-1123

What kind of dresses are you talking about? If you mean the formal, tailored ones everyone used to wear about 10 years ago (sorry, don’t mean to be rude) then you need slim loafers, ballet pumps or flat slingbacks. Something quite delicate. Shirt dresses are probably ok with any of those but also boots or trainers.

Cheeesus · 05/03/2024 18:52

If you want ballet flats but with more support, the Fitflop ones are good. These

I wouldn’t be seen dead in ballet flats.

I wear smart white trainers (like converse flatforms), or Chelsea boots or DMs.

In the summer, I have a few pairs of strappy Swedish Hasbeens with the low chunky heel. I see lots of high st shops are now selling this style.

AgathaX · 05/03/2024 19:22

I have difficult feet, so limited to what footwear I can wear. I wear boots or DM shoes in winter, trainers or DM sandals in summer. Walking sandals if I'm walking a long distance in hot weather.

I am very tempted by these. I love not having to wear heels to work any more!

Some great suggestions on here. Place marking

No, not tailored dresses. I love them but they are back on the wardrobe but I would be lying if I said I didn't want them to make a comeback.

Typically something like this but closer to knee-length.

I hate the move to casual dressing. It's not really me! Even my casual wardrobe isn't that casual. I like tailoring and structure.

I don't do heels, they hurt too much. I wear black Chelsea boots most of the time, have a 3 pairs, one v chunky which are longer (go up to mid calf, these were cheapish, Zara) and 2 less chunky/lower (both Tracey nuels, much more expensive, but one pair I got cheaper in sample sale; if I could afford it I'd buy many more of her shoes). I wear all styles with dresses, diff go better with diff dresses. I like the contrast of a delicate dress with relatively chunky boots. That is a bit less formal though, with my smartest dresses I tend to wear the less chunky ones.

Riverlee · 05/03/2024 21:22

These are my favourite shoes I wear as soon as it’s warm enough not to wear tights.

The style is Rosalie 13, and they’re made by Josef Seibel, and come in a variety of colours (and also patterned). I’ve had several of these over the years.

I wear school shoes for kids. They're smart, black, flat and designed to be comfortable for running around a playground. They're also cheaper because there's no vat on kids' clothes. I have very small feet (size 3/3.5) so lots of choice in the kids' section. You can usually find lots of pretty, feminine but flat and comfortable shoes in the girls' shoes section.

Citrusandginger · 05/03/2024 21:52

I've got a blue suede pair that are a similar shape to these.

Next have got a slingback version in brown that I've got my eye on. Once summer comes, I'm on a quest for low heeled wedges.

merryandbrightdelight · 05/03/2024 22:01

I wear similar to these with dresses and tights https://www.next.co.uk/style/SU102905/N14607?dp=a&dndl=1&gadsource=1&gbraid=0AAAAADmm5UVMpau5zf6DsueHeLZPtRZWn&gclid=EAIaIQobChMI8vbCl4ehAMVwJNQBh2HzgcSEAQYASABEgLezvDDBwE&gclsrc=aw.ds#N14607

I'm 33 and work in education if it helps! I admire those in heels but the thought of them makes my feet ache

RampantIvy · 04/03/2024 22:51

I would like to know as well. I wear orthotics, and ballet flats and mules would be out of the question for me.

Same! I’m looking for something with a bit of support but brogues seem v outdated now.

I’m speaking at a conference next week and badly need some new shoes.

Tanfastic · 05/03/2024 22:44

I've never loved the dresses with trainers look, they look ridiculous on me and we aren't allowed to wear trainers in our office anyway. I tend to wear knee high leather boots with dresses (mainly midi or jumper style) or loafers with dresses or ankle boots with a block heel with trousers. In the summer it's pointed flats (sling backs).
