Why buy pretty summer dresses if we won't be able to wear them?

I got a couple of emails from fashion brands today - so many pretty summer dresses. But I often find that our summers (bar a couple of weeks, usually) are not hot enough to wear short-sleeved or sleeveless dresses because I get cold. I WFH and unless I'm in the sun, the house is rarely baking hot.

Such a shame because whenever I go on holiday somewhere warm like the Mediterranean, it's so nice to wear dresses every day and every evening. And I can't just put a (denim) jacket on. To be warm I need something against my skin, like a long-sleeved tight/thermal t-shirt.

Anyone else?

There was one week, maybe two, in May this year when I was comfortable in summer clothes. Since then I’ve worn jeans and long sleeves, or at least a long sleeved extra layer, every day.

Jeans and jumper today. I keep on optimistically putting gradual fake tan on my legs but it's never warm enough to wear a skirt or dress. I really feel the cold.

Today in the southwest, it's so miserable I have on jeans and a cashmere jumper (but not the thermal undershirt I wear all winter).

I had a wander round some clothes shops today, and I was wondering just how much unsold stock they'll be left with at the end of the season.

I’m in NE Scotland and this year have worn a dress with bare legs three times - two of those occasions it’s actually been a long-sleeved dress, and all three it’s been a midi dress.

Right now I am in joggers, sweatshirt, cardi and chunky socks to sit on the couch watching telly!

Agree with pp that shops are going to have a lot of summery stock left to shift. I definitely won’t buy anything more now.

I nearly bought some dresses and skirts the other day, but didn’t. There is just no point, it’s no where near warm enough. And it’s not looking like it will be any time soon!

I wear dresses the whole year as I don’t like trousers. I wear longer dresses that cover the legs and if cold I wear black leggings or tights underneath. I sweats wear a short or long sleeved T-shirt under
neath and a cardigan on top in winter. I don’t confess to being fashionable though I just hate trousers.

Nope, I love dresses and it's been one day so far this summer. 2 or 3 weekend days in shorts.
It's not so much cold temps so but the constant bloody strong winds that get up, just makes wearing a dress a pain in the arse with it all billowing about in the wind. I'm in the SW for reference so def not a cold location, just a breezy one!

My Joanie dress arrived today.....it's gorgeous and probably the first pretty summer dress I've ever owned (at over 50!).
I damn well will be wearing it soon even if I have to chuck a jacket over the top!

Enjoy it @henlake7 . Feel gorgeous.
