Looking for a good quality raincoat

I was browsing online for a well tailored rubberized (or sort of soft plastic look finish) raincoat - key word is well tailored.

Online shops are flooded with what basically is a cutout of a garbage bag in different colors, looking like tents or wrinkly...just generally very low quality and sometimes for a hefty price :S

I saw a lady yesterday wearing sort of what I am looking for - coat-like olive brown raincoat with a roomy hood. Surface was kind of soft but thick and not too shiny plastic and the raindrops were simply sliding down. The cut was sooo nice - for example - the sleaves had like an additional diagonal stitching around the elbow area, so when her arm was bent it doesn't look wrinkled or baggy. Just all of it was such a nice thick material - not a single crease.

I should have asked where she got it but kind of felt bad stopping someone in a pouring rain...

Anyone knows any remote examples of what I am after. Color is not crucial - I would perhaps avoid black, navy or warm browns.

One of these?

(You haven’t mentioned a budget?)

What you describe the lady wearing sounds a bit like an Ilse Jacobson coat.

I have a Stutterheim, love it! It was a present from my boys, about £250 (not cheap in my eyes).

Hobbs ?

These are super nice, but no hood and definitely more on the fashionable side.
Yeah forgot to mention the budget 🤦🏼‍♀️
So I would find it difficult to justify over 250, if something was like super amazing so I am set with a raincoat for life - may go slightly above...but unlikely.

Looked into these, they are a bit too unstructured and thin material, maybe the photos don't do it justice?

I see what you mean, a lot of them do look a bit cheap, they must have changed their style to mimic Rains etc. This one looks a bit more substantial: https://www.johnlewis.com/ilse-jacobsen-hornb-k-long-utility-raincoat/khaki/p5287708?size=18&s_ppc=2dx_mixed_fashion_BAU&tmad=c&tmcampid=2&gad_source=1&gclid=CjwKCAiAloavBhBOEiwAbtAJOyNj9qFH0V-VM69JB8ywonB5dRe_ZP6V7rzFgIIs82zHt-6Lcgr8wxoCc6MQAvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds

Rainsisters!

Look at Protected Species OP. I have 3 different ones and their windcheater cardigan/jacket. They are expensive, but fabulous. www.protected-species.com/shop/

I had a nice one from lighthouse clothing with that rubbery feel

ElbiTut · 26/03/2024 10:37

I bought one from lighthouse in the end. Although a lovely jacket it is not what I was looking for. This one is definitely more like waterproof jacket, slightly padded even... Nice piece of clothing that I will keep for a season or two, but still looking for that rubbery one 😃
