White ankle socks over leggings

I've seen 2 people in the last few days with white sport ankle socks pulled up over their leggings, like sports wear look. Please tell me this is not a thing!

It's definitely a thing. The way it was in the 90s. The 'no show' sock thing with leggings is considered passé.

TikTok taught me this.

Midnlghtrain · 28/02/2024 20:28

I wear socks over the bottoms of my leggings 😂 keeps the ankles warm in winter!

It's definitely a thing and has been for a while now!

FancyBiscuitsLevel · 28/02/2024 20:38

Chunky sports socks on show has been a thing for ages, apparently my love of trainer socks is a sign I am indeed very old.

largeprintagathachristie · 28/02/2024 20:41

Very much a thing I see a lot in London.

Quite designer-y socks, often, too.
Brand name/logos displayed.

I wear socks over my leggings all the time- but it's because I have raynauds and need to keep my ankles warm!

Ilovewineitdoesntlovemeback · 28/02/2024 20:43

Yep, it's a thing.

Trainer socks went out with skinny jeans.

I like having warm ankles

ShaunaTheSheep · 28/02/2024 20:45

I suspect if it's being discussed on here it is no longer a thing Wink

LadyCynthiaFitzmelton · 28/02/2024 20:45

I saw lots of this in Selfridges last summer. Kids, heh?

Wizzadorra70 · 28/02/2024 20:45

Yep.

It's tragic. Like people are trying to be "cool" and anti-style, and clearly don't own mirrors.... otherwise they see how bloody stupid they look Grin

SparrowFeet · 28/02/2024 20:46

Wearing ankle socks with leggings almost looks odd now to me. But then I always have wanted to look like an 80s aerobics instructor so this is my time.

TwilightSkies · 28/02/2024 20:47

I think having bare ankles out in freezing weather looks way more stupid!!!

Gymmum82 · 28/02/2024 20:48

It’s 100% a thing. Near enough everyone at my gym is sporting this look now

ErnestCelendine · 28/02/2024 20:49

I just bought some sports socks to try this out, so no doubt the trend has well and truly peaked.

FancyBiscuitsLevel · 28/02/2024 20:50

Yep - fashion is actually sensible sometimes, warm ankles are a thing.

DillDanding · 28/02/2024 20:52

It’s definitely a thing at my gym. I’m increasingly aware how incredibly dated I look in my 7/8 leggings with no show socks!

I have managed to ditch my skinny jeans but don’t think I’ll be embracing this look.

SomersetTart · 28/02/2024 20:52

Very popular in my town with women in their 20s and 30s. Everywhere, not just in the gym but in cafes and the high street too. Trainers, leggings, white socks pulled up to mid calf, coffee in hand, labradoodle and massive puffa coat.

MumUndone · 28/02/2024 20:53

Been a thing for yonks

itsgettingweird · 28/02/2024 20:54

If accompanied by sliders and not trainers it's absolutely apt apparently!

I wear leggings (just the primark cosy ones) with the primark slouch socks and trainers for walking.

If my ankles are warm - so am I!

And I walk at 5am 😂

Spendysis · 28/02/2024 20:55

Yep it’s a thing my dd22 and all her friends are wearing leggings either trainers or converse with sports socks over the leggings

EarringsandLipstick · 28/02/2024 20:56

You're way behind the times OP! It's been a thing for over a year.

I don't do it, I just can't pull it off, but I admire the look on others!

rainbegone · 28/02/2024 20:57

"Trainers, leggings, white socks pulled up to mid calf, coffee in hand, labradoodle and massive puffa coat."

Oh god this is the same in my town too
