Coat for year 9 boy who likes Napapijri (but not Napapijri)

I wasn’t sure whether to post this on this board or where else.

We struggle to get our year 9 son to wear a coat at all. He’s headed off to school today (in cold suburban London) in just a jumper. He’s tall and in men’s clothes sizes.

At the weekend he said he likes Napapijri but checking the website they seem a bit expensive and very heavy on logos / flags.

I am looking for a coat that he will wear (won’t be shameful / bring social death) but also won’t attract unwanted attention (an older boy at his school was stabbed recently - luckily he’s ok) and doesn’t cost too much when he’s still growing - maybe £100 (is that realistic)?

Suggestions from those more stylish than me (probably everyone) welcome. Thank you.

DS2 has an overhead style Columbia coat. So glad over the fashion for this style because he's severely autistic and won't wear a regular coat.

My son has a napin thingy coat, can’t spell or say it. Overhead type one was £98, ££ for a coat he does wear it though it’s waterproof too. I have 4 boys and have found as teens they will choose their own things, so ask him to choose give a budget. If you choose they won’t wear, and for social aspect that is worse. I don’t know how old y9 is as Scotland but I have 4 ds14yo 18 and 22 my 12 year old isn’t fussed yet thankfully, it’s a minefield

I got DS a Napapijri coat for £20 from Vinted

Napapijri via ebay for mine- new without tags c £40

SocksShmocks · 27/02/2024 09:18

Thanks. He’s 13.

Google tells me Napapijri is actually an Italian brand with a Finnish name and uses the Norwegian flag. That all sounds ‘cringe’ to me but what do I know as a middle aged woman.

If you do order one, go big, they're a pretty small fit!

If you can afford what he likes buy it.
I'm sure your parents didn't agree with your taste as a teenager.

Fair point

And I paid £89 for Ds2's Columbia Challenger (2 versions, BTW, one insulated and one not and the link above is the not.) so if you can get the one he likes and will wear for a sensible price, then go for that one.

Thought I’d update to say I suggested some other options but he was adamant he wanted Napapijri. John Lewis had a rainforest jacket half price (£120 rather than £240) and he’s really happy (and I think surprised) I got it for him.

Thanks everyone.
