Biker jacket at 50?

I know, I know, wear what you like. I think my main concern is that I’ve never been a very adventurous dresser anyway and now I’m worried I’ll look like midlife crisis mutton in something like this.

And no, I wouldn’t judge someone else for wearing it, at any age. But I’m wondering whether I should return it.

I’m tall and fairly slim, for the record.

It’s just a jacket. I wouldn’t think twice.

DontWasteMyTime · 25/02/2024 15:55

I'm 64 and got a jacket like that 2 years ago. I'm not tall OR slim, but I like it and it's a change from my Parka.

OP

Whatever you ant to wear, if you feel good I it, trust me it will look good

I think my insecurity is showing! 😂 Thank you x

I wouldn't wear a plastic one, as I think they can look cheap. Can and do wear proper leather ones a lot though - I'm over 50 and neither tall nor thin. Maybe wait for a sale at All Saints - their jackets are brilliant and you'd wear it forever.

FishPie2 · 25/02/2024 16:19

I said in an earlier thread about wearing a biker jacket - I am well past retiring age and I have 3. One thing I would say is buy a real leather one if you can afford it as I bought a coated one and hated it after having leather ones.

Im mid fifties and have one and I love it - it’s neat fitted as I’m five foot one so it doesn’t drown me - and I wear it with dresses and ankle boots with a small heel. I’ve had loads of compliments so must be doing something right!

BeautifulThings01 · 25/02/2024 16:34

I like them but haven’t worn mine for a couple of years.

Petrine · 25/02/2024 16:35

I’m 68 and wear one. I’m not tall, 5’2”, but I am petite.

As with anything, you need to wear it with the right clothes. I wear mine with Levi’s 501’s and merino wool jumpers or a shirt and long mid calf skirt. Certain dresses also look good.

mine is an Autograph black leather… I love it.

tentonine · 25/02/2024 16:37

I'm 65 and love stylish biker jackets. I have a black leather one at the moment (4 years old). I don't like the one you have picked - shapeless and plastic. Get a nice one.

Startingagainandagain · 25/02/2024 16:43

OP one of the good thing about getting older I found is that I have stopped caring about what other people think and that includes how people think I 'should' dress...

At 50 you have earned the right to wear whatever makes you happy.

Go for it!!

All Saints leather jacket here ( limited sizing) but lower than the original price. https://www.tkmaxx.com/uk/en/women/clothing/jackets+coats/jackets/black-sheep-leather-biker-jacket/p/35397057

5'3 and slim over the hips but 32G

Love my 'biker' jacket, I'd had it for decades and it is still as good as new. In other fabric it would be worn threadbare by now.

Any jacket which is full enough at the front then either nipped in at the waist or stopping just short of the hips works well for me.

Understanding the geometry of my shape gives me a giant head start when working out whether something will work on my body.

A biker jacket is for everyone, but as you are mature please get a more expensive one, better quality, more attention to detail and fit
Look on vinted there are leather ones on there.

As everyone says - nothing wrong with the style but that fabric looks cheap and unflattering. Try and get something in good real leather, either new or pre-owned.
