Help me find a perfume?

I'm looking for a new perfume. My reason for not posting on the big perfume thread is that they are very knowledgeable, whereas I don't know what I am talking about Confused.

As I am allergic to fish and shellfish I steer towards vegetarian perfumes, it's not a principled stance. Some of the ingredients in high street perfumes give me a migraine, I like Chanel Coco, sadly it induces a migraine.

I don't like the smell of magnolia, I don't think I like honeysuckle and jasmine can smell meh when it is blended with certain other fragrances. I like fruit fragrances individually, I'm not looking for a fruit punch smell, I particularly like pear, fig, peach, orange and others.
I don't like the smell of oud/aoud.

My favourite perfume ever was Aveda's Shampure when it was sold as a perfume oil. The EDT version is not even close.

I'd like an EDP. Florals I would especially like a perfume centered around Ylang Ylang, something spicy, musky and sensual. Heady without being headachey.

Also I like rose, particularly old English rose or Turkish rose, lavender, frangipani, violet, sweet pea. I could go on naming flowers I like. In particular I prefer a blend of complimentary floral fragrances, around a central fragrance, preferably Ylang Ylang.

Recently I have noticed a move towards overwhelming amber and vanilla fragrances. Everything seems to be amber or vanilla!
I like them both as part of a blend. If I only wanted one or another I would buy them as an individual fragrance, or one with few added notes.

Years ago I liked Obsession, Samsara, Poison and others, th

Off the top of my head I can't think
I'm not sure what else I should mention.
Please ask if I need to clarify.

Any suggestions would be gratefully appreciated.

I used to like Si but then started to find it a bit too cloying and sweet.

PerfumeToLove · 27/02/2024 15:49

The Hermes one looks promising @AntonFeckoff thank you.
It doesn't have to be vegetarian necessarily, it's fish that I'm allergic to.

@Definitelynotme2022 Floral Street perfumes don't last on me, if they smell at all.

Rituals Fleur de l'Himalaya - has wild Orchid and Himalayan Peony.

A drop d'issey

I'm a vegetarian who is really allergic to shellfish, but I must admit it's never occurred to me to worry about perfumes containing an allergen I'll react to. Nor have I ever thought about whether perfumes might not be vegetarian. The closest I've been would probably be the ethical concern about musks in vintage perfumes.

I think I've sampled somewhere between 800 and 900 perfumes and never had any kind of allergic reaction.

I hope you're able to find perfumes you love, OP.

I know nothing about perfumes, don't ever use them, never have, but came here to say that Aveda's Shampure is my favourite smell ever, and if it was sold as a perfume, I'd break the habit of a lifetime and wear it!!

NowWhatUsernameShallIHave · 28/02/2024 09:32

Off the top of my head

Try one-off Liz Earle’s- I particularly like 100

Tbe Clean Reserve perfumes are nice sold at space nk

HolyMoly24 · 28/02/2024 12:46

@NeitherKilnerNorMason there's a Pure-fume mist coming out soon with the same scent as Shampure. I think technically it's a hair mist but nothing to stop you misting that bad boy all over

spanieleyes22 · 28/02/2024 13:07

I have NO sense of smell and miss it so much. I need someone to pick out a perfume for me but it's so personal I do t know if I would like it!

poppym12 · 28/02/2024 13:50

I love fig scents and wear Roger & Gallet Fleur de Figuier day to day. For going out I use Acqua Di Parma Fico di Amalfi.

I'm interested to see an Aveda fragrance mentioned. I don't know what Shampure smells like but I love the smell of the hair thickening tonic - does anyone know if they smell the same? I'd love a body spray of that scent.

PerfumeToLove · 28/02/2024 14:22

@HolyMoly24 it is the old Pure-fume oil spray that I like.

Aveda did bring out a Shampure mist after they stopped making the Pure-fume. The Pure-fume was more like EDP, the mist was a weak EDT and really didn't smell great by comparison. My guess is that the new hair mist will be like the EDT.

@skilpadde I'm not a vegetarian and I don't need a perfume to be vegetarian. I have had allergic reactions to perfumes in the past and it is a horrible experience.

It sounds like you don’t like Aldehydes from your description of silver sharp smell… Chanel is well known for Aldehydes - it’s what made No 5 such a success

I think you need to get yourself a Perfume society discovery box and study their notes and see what it is you like/ dislike. This is the best way to find your perfect perfume. They’re cheap as chips - about £20-25 for a box of fragrant delights. Love the Perfume society

NahNeedsGarlic · 28/02/2024 14:38

I second Arran perfumes, I have Wild Gorse (coconutty) and Grapefruit (which dh has now claimed as his own!)

PerfumeToLove · 28/02/2024 20:12

@NeitherKilnerNorMason yes, it's the Aveda Hair Tonic (Tonique) smell.
That's the one I'm looking for.

I'm ok with Chanel no 5 @LoadsToLose, I don't love it on me which is why I don't buy it, though I can wear it.
