What do I need to know about facial laser hair removal?

I've just ordered a bargain laser hair removal device. Now I am worried. I have 2 weeks growth on my upper lip now. I usually use immac. Should I do that tonight or is it better to have the growth? Can I burn myself with the machine? Anything else I should know?

If its like a lumea, it's recommended to shave first so that the laser can get closer to the root to zap it.

Laser doesn't recommend shaving. I've only ever had electrolysis or laser in a proper shop/clinic.
Secondly lumea is NOT laser. It's intense pulsed light (IPL). Which is different, it's NOT laser.

Thank you. Does the hair fall out immediately or will I be like a shedding dog? I already feel self conscious.

Exactly which product have you bought? name it or provide a link and then people will be able to advise you on exactly what to do before during and after.

AMINZER 2023. Thank-you. I can still cancel it, if you think its rubbish...

I don't know anything about it, but having just looked it up it's clearly an IPL which is the same as a lumea. Do you understand the difference between an IPL and other forms of hair removal? Do you understand what you're getting? if you do then that's fine, crack on!

coodawoodashooda · 24/02/2024 21:02

I don't understand it. It's an impulse purchase after watching a thousand tiktoks! My moustache is one of my annoying weekly chores. I had thought about going to a salon but it's so expensive and I can't really afford it. I'll go and read about the difference. Thanks

IPL, works best on dark hair and pale skin

So you are doing the top lip?, shave then use the IPL, making sure it zapps the whole area. After a couple of days, when you feel stuble coming through, shave again and zapp again and continue

If the hair are dark and the skin is pale, it shouldnt take more then 3 or 4 uses before you notice the difference, less hair coming through, taking longer to be visable.

IPL isnt permanent, nothing for home use is permanent , but it will keep the hair at bay whilst you use it regulary. So even when you notice theres no noticable hair appearing, you still need to zapp every couple of weeks to keep it that way

That's really helpful. Thank you so much for taking the time to post. Can I use immac, rather than shave? I feel worried that shaving would making me look like a bloke. Also, if I did invest in salon treatment would it be permanent? I have had significant personal drama over the last ten years and am only now finding my way through the layers of chaos. I've finally started to take a bit of interest in myself. I might be better returning the product I've bought and putting the money towards salon treatment.

TBH I don't think even salon treatment is permanent , you will have to go for top ups but it will be quicker and more precise

I cant use hair removing creams so I just use one of those microplane thingies meant for eyebrow shaping , and no its not made the hair worse. I have very very thick stubbly top lip hair anyway.

Ive been using the Braun Silk pro5 for about 7 months on and off - Im not religious about it, and Ive very few hairs now - mostly just white ones and the odd fine dark one makes an appearance now and then
