Greying hair help!!

Hello 👋

I’m hoping to get some advice and opinions on my hair which I am battling with at the moment.

I’ll be 50 in about 6 months and have had greying hair for quite a few years now. My original natural colour was a dark brown.

When I first started greying I used to simply cover it with a dark brown home box dye and that was fine, but as the greys became more noticeable I decided to leave it be, grow out the colour and embrace the ageing process. I then had a short pixie crop which was a cool edgy style and looked good with the grey.

I got bored with that over lockdown and as it was already growing out, I decided to go for a chin length bob with a short fringe which I had for a while last year.

I also had it recoloured at the hairdressers a few times starting off with full brunette then moving to highlights as I’d decided to grow out the grey again.

Long story short, I now have the colour situation that you can see in the photos. I’ve got a short bob with layers so I can wear it wavy but I really feel l that the grey isn’t doing me any favours!

As you can see from the pics, I also have some stubborn colour strands that look awful.

I need to do something but don’t know what.

Any thoughts?!

Golden toner.
I think the silver coming through is a lovely colour.

I really like it! Once that last bit of colour has grown out it will be even better.

It looks nice Op honestly ( I’m also 50 and greying so understand how strange it feels ) condition looks great too … once the coloured bit has grown out will be perfect .

I think your hair is lovely.

Agree a toner would help. Use purple shampoo once a week.

Mine's got more white in than your's but it's more than 50% white/grey streaks but it looks blonde as I stain it with a tea I make up. I make it from a teeny tiny pinch of turmeric, camomile tea, red bush tea and instant coffee in a big tea pot. Then saturate clean dry hair in it and leave it in and then style as normal.

Im at the same stage with my hair, so Ive had it cut really short back and sides, top longer but really getting that thinned out to get most of the colour gone. Its been 4 months and two cuts so far and I think a cut next month will get 99% of the colour gone then Im going to get the rest toned in

Thank you all for both your advice and your kind comments- I wasn’t expecting that!

I’ve had an ashy brown toner through it before and that is what is left in terms of the awful brown bits.

Ideally I’d like to be able to tone it at home and I like the idea of a blonde toner. Can anyone advise which products are good for this? I’ve tried the Shrine drops in silver before but found the shade very cold.

Thanks again 😊

@newnamenellie I like this product and its conditioner as it isn't drying and works well to get a bright colour finish.

you could also get very delicate blonde highlights scattered over the full head to bring the colour to more of a blonde look while the grey is coming through and then as more grey appears you won't need the highlights
