Hello all!

I'm attending a wedding in August and it has a frog theme - I'm wearing the shoes below but struggling to find a dress.

Was wondering if some lovely mumsnetters could help - I'm wearing the shoes below as a statement piece and to go with the frog theme.

I know this is a weird request Grin

I'm also plus size so fat friendly brands please.

Thank you

I think the shoes are fab! But I think a green dress is a bit on point.

If it were me, I’’d buy a red or pink dress to pick out the red or pink in the shoes, especially something I’d wear again in a non-frog context…

(And if I had the budget I’d get the matching Kermit clutch bag!)

BlushingMermaid · 24/02/2024 11:31

Thank you for all the suggestions everyone.

I'm really not a stylish person haha but would these look nice with the shoes? I'm just thinking with it being a summer wedding, it might be a bit warm but also could wear it again but not sure if wedding appropriate?

@BlushingMermaid I think that would look lovely! You could perhaps pair with a shawl or wrap or similar if it gets chilly in the evening?

SoEmbarrassed2024 · 24/02/2024 11:41

Have you tried Elsie's attic? A lot of their dresses fit 12-24 - the belladonna dresses are great

I think the shoes are genius as a nod to the bride's crazy theme, but don't see why guests should do more than make a bit of an effort. Given your budget OP you obviously want to wear something quality so it should be something you'd wear again and anytime.

I know you said August, but this, from James Lakeland, as per a PP, would look good with the shoes I think. You may feel black's not right for the time of year though.

I like the general style and colours (as previously mentioned I’d be more inclined to go with the pink than the green) and think they’re suitable for the style of wedding you’ve described - but the cutting/fit around the bust in the model wearing the pink looks a little poor/cheap (might be the material, difficult to tell in one small photo!). With your budget you may be able to get something constructed better (or consider getting a dress tailored to fit perfectly).

I for one am here for a wedding that's a bit unusual. It will be a lot of fun.

I would definitely major on the frog accessories but stick to a plain dress.

BlushingMermaid · 24/02/2024 12:00

Ooo that's cute! Thank you

Love the shoes, i'd go for a non green dress so they stand out more and won't have shade match issue. Would look cute with a 50's style dress either circle skirt or slimer pencil depending on body shape.

Will be fun to spot all the frogs and is a lot you can easily pick up cheaply or be more subtle like socks, tie, earrings, hair clips, bag adornment to add to a wedding outfit you have already or just wear something green, it's not as bad as being asked to wear a specific colour clothing which may not own or suit.

MN usually full of people that hate any themed or fancy dress things so can imagine the AIBU to not accept the invite to frog themed wedding 😂

This thread has rivetted me. I hope it spawns loads more replies.

😂

This one is lovely OP! Really nice shade of green and shape and you could maybe accessorise with a red clutch bag or similar. Or a red belt?

I get what you're saying about not going full on green but I think this is classy and subtle enough to work - I wouldn't go for any novelty kermit print type thing (well actually I would be tempted tbh 😅) as the shoes shouldn't be overshadowed but this is a genuinely nice dress!

ilovesushi · 24/02/2024 13:10

That's nuts! Are you sure you read the invite correctly? Not sure what else it could be though. Will it be a bit like Bridget Jones diary where she turns up as a bunny girl and everyone else is in regular clothes? There are lots of frog fabrics out there, if you fancy making your own dress. Need an update of the finished outfit once you have it sorted!

I didn't realise Butler and Wilson were still going- that's adorable.

I'd check it's not a typo or you'll look a tad pole bonkers!

BlushingMermaid · 24/02/2024 13:18

The whole invitation is frog puns Grin definitely not made a mistake haha.

I do like the dress PP suggested so might get that, with my amazing shoes and a red clutch possibly.

I think the piping is actually hot pink rather than red but it’s difficult to tell on screen! Agree red/hot pink clutch depending on what colour it is in real life.

NewName24 · 24/02/2024 13:31

What a bizarre wedding!

However, you have done so well with those shoes, I'd go with a simple, plain dress in any complimentary colour (not green) and let the shoes do the talking.

MadMadamMimz · 24/02/2024 13:46

I love the shoes!

This one is lovely and could easily be worn again (with slightly less bonkers shoes)

A plain green dress and then a lilypad fascinator attached to a headband!

KirstenBlest · 24/02/2024 13:58

What muppets! I'd just get a regular frog that you can wear to other weddings and forget about toadying to their whims.

Blossomclouds · 24/02/2024 14:29

My best advice ... a) advertise on EBay (my friend married a man of Indian descent and wanted a burgundy wedding dress.. and got a beautiful one!! or b) look up your local dreassmaker, can sometimes be cheaper than actually buying. Good luck!!
