Hello all!

I'm attending a wedding in August and it has a frog theme - I'm wearing the shoes below but struggling to find a dress.

Was wondering if some lovely mumsnetters could help - I'm wearing the shoes below as a statement piece and to go with the frog theme.

I know this is a weird request Grin

I'm also plus size so fat friendly brands please.

Thank you

Black and white patterned dress, to match frogs eyes, and a froggie bag (like pp's kermit one) for another nod and colour pop. There are loads of nice black and white patterned dresses at the mo.

Wombatsquarepoo · 24/02/2024 08:03

I kinda low key love those shoes!! I would go for something plain as well so it’s still wedding-y without being too mad

thesugarbumfairy · 24/02/2024 08:10

I really love this dress
www.simplybe.co.uk/shop/p/ie292 its not really the right shade for the shoes but i think you could get away with it. I honestly wouldnt go full frog print. And i like a novely frock. But not as well as the ICs.

Given that the OP has stated a budget of £300 it’s dispiriting to see how many suggestions here are for dresses costing around £50.

Have people been distracted by the ‘plus size’ in her thread title? She is hoping to be at most a size 18 by August so there shouldn’t be much limitation on the brands she can choose from. Is it a feeling that a size 18 doesn’t deserve more expensive clothing - even for a wedding? Or are people only aware of plus size clothes being sold by those very cheap brands?

And does the bride really want an avalanche of novelty Muppets stuff at her marriage ceremony? I don’t know, maybe she does …

housethatbuiltme · 24/02/2024 08:58

I would wear a plain green dress and let the shoes be the statement.

Wow, you’ve really Kermitted to the theme!
I agree with PPs the shoes are so out there that a plain dress would be the way to go I feel. Plain green, pink or red possibly. I think I would try to get the Irregular Choice Kermit bag too, but I can only find it in the US and I guess duty/taxes might make it a bit too costly.

I'm just here to appreciate the Kermit pun 👏

@BlossomBlossomBlossom I don't think it's the plus size element that's keeping the suggestions low budget! It's the frog theme 😂

Wizzadorra70 · 24/02/2024 09:04

I'd go for a plain dress with those shoes - let them be the stars of the show.

Scarlett and Jo are perfect dresses - pull you in while still being incredibly comfortable as most I've got are lined. https://www.scarlettandjo.com/collections/plus-size-wedding-guests-dresses/products/julie-dark-green-velvet-flock-hanky-hem-dress?variant=46880363675956

mitogoshi · 24/02/2024 09:07

I would opt for a 3/4 or maxi length green dress, silk Fred had some last year that I was tempted by, they go up to 18. Well within budget, allowing for shortening if you aren't that tall (I'm finding all maxi dresses too long these days at 5'6 and those shoes mustn't be hidden!!!)

mitogoshi · 24/02/2024 09:09

@BlossomBlossomBlossom

Just because you could spend up to £300, it doesn't mean the op must spend that, for a quirky wedding theme it might only be worn once. I've bought things costing £50 that look much nicer than those costing £500!

Probably a plain green or pink dress,as with the shoes could look a bit OTT I think.Shoes are great btw.

I’m not a fan of buying for a single wear.

Also questioning the rationale of anyone claiming to care about frogs - so presumably with some feeling for the environment - encouraging their guests to buy a load of throwaway tat to celebrate a solemn occasion.

katscamel · 24/02/2024 10:10

I love frogs and think it sounds perfect. I also have those Kermit shoes. When they came out I know IC had a Kermit sequin purse can't remember a bag though.
Make the shoes the focus and maybe accessorise with frog jewellery.

Redlarge · 24/02/2024 10:15

The shoes. A frog necklace and a flattering wrap dress.

Your shoes are amazing. Do you mind sharing a link to them please?

StrawberryPi · 24/02/2024 10:27

I haven't read the whole thread so apologies if this has already been said.

If she hasn't yet, please please get the bride to listen to Sarah Millican's Desert Island Disks!!

She talks so movingly about having Paul McCartney's Frog Chorus "we all stand together" at her wedding and it sounded wonderful. Might be right up the bride's street!

StrawberryPi · 24/02/2024 10:28

And the lyrics are gorgeous!

Win or lose, sink or swim
One thing is certain we'll never give in
Side by side, hand in hand
We all stand together

Play the game, fight the fight
But what's the point on a beautiful night?
Arm in arm, hand in hand
We all stand together

I actually got them on Vinted for £50 - I just put Kermit shoes haha but they're irregular choice I think x

I love the shoes (and the muppets…) - I think they’re great and probably all the frog you need in your outfit.

I agree with previous posters who have suggested looking at red/pink rather than full on green. Plus if green and pink is good enough for Kermit and Piggy… Hope and Ivy have some lovely stuff and up to a size 24 (plus they often pop up on Vinted so you might get a bargain). I also like the Claudia dress from Deadly is the Female - they’ve only got wintery colours/materials/cuts on at the moment but last summer they had a lovely flutter sleeved fuchsia or orchid pink. I’d maybe add some big statement green/pink/green and pink earrings to tie the shoes in - maybe something like this?

The Christine

The Christine Embroidered Flutter Sleeve Plunge Neck Midi Dress  Steal hearts and turn heads in this lovely Hope & Ivy design from our Spring 24 collection. Elegantly embroidered white florals entwine on the bold pink bodice and skirt. The dress is...

Enjoying this thread! With that budget I'd suggest looking for a local seamstress and getting some fabric you like and having a bespoke dress made up. That way you don't need to worry about sizes fitting (or, frog theme, someone else rocking up in the same frock). Lily pad fabric, blue/green water pattern, something you'll enjoy wearing. There might be a frog fabric for a belt or around the hem or something (that can be unpicked and dumped after the wedding).
